My iMac is going back for replacement due to the freezing. We will be using my Mini while awaiting the replacement.

My question is will Time Machine data that gets backed up from the Mini be able to be imported into the iMac when the new one arrives so that photos, movies, etc can be used there?

When setting up the iMac, you will be able to restore it from the Mac Mini's time machine data. This will essentially make the iMac an exact copy of the Mini. I know this because when I got my New mini, I accidentally restored it from my macbooks backup instead of my old Mini's backup :D

@reebzor

Thanks! So only things like imported photos, faces DB from iPhotos, iMovie items and documents will come over? What about security settings like the kid's parental control settings?

So my family can use the Mini like they want until the replacement iMac arrives?

Like I said before, if you do this the new iMac will be an EXACT COPY of the last time machine backup of the Mini. As long as it keeps backing up, everything they do should transfer right over.

You are correct. I just did that very thing. I transferred my mac mini stuff from my time machine and it worked flawlessly. I love macs !!!!
