Time machine+MBP/MB, Speculation?

Now we know that Time machine will require a mac to sync with an external storage at least once a day or so. I'm just wondering what would be a good back up solution for a macbook or macbook Pro, since we wouldn't like having to carry an external HD with us at all time and syncing with a server would likely be quite slow.

A laptop with built-in secondary hard drive, just for backing up purpose, sounds like a neat idea. Of course, this needs a major redesign. Do you think a 1.8" drive will fit nicely in a laptop? Let's share some ideas.

maybe when solid-state HDs are the norm... can fit in a second one while keeping laptops the same size.

Flash (or similar) memory like what is in the iPod shuffle and nano. Very space and energy efficient and no moving parts, but not available in nearly large enough capacities at reasonable prices yet.

I see. That's exactly what I was thinking. As soon as flash memories have better capacity, it will suddenly be used as a back up storage. Many laptops do have card reader slots but I don't see how flash drives can catch up with hard drives in terms of their capacity and speed.
