Hi All,

Hoping for some help with Time Machine please?

I noticed this evening that the Time Machine icon on the menu bar had an exclamation mark on it and said Backup Had Been Delayed. The last backup was on the 7th of May (7 days ago) and it was not showing a drive to backup to. Checking Finder my Time Capsule was not appearing either.

I turned my Time Capsule off and on, after which it appeared in Finder again.

Going back into Time Machine it now listed a backup disk available. When I select this disk it now tells me "Oldest Backup: None", "Latest Backup: None". Despite the old backup file still being available on the TC, TM now wants to start a fresh one. While not a major issue I would much prefer it continued backing up to the existing file.

Is there a way to tell TM to use that existing file?

Nothing has changed on my iMac recently, no other events I can think of that may have caused the problem. OSX is 10.8.3, TC firmware is 7.6.3.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Cheers

The backup may have been corrupted. You may want to verify the backup, hold option while selecting the TM icon.

I eventually got this resolved after some further digging around. This solution is by no means mine, I found it about a week ago but can't remember where to credit them with the answer?

Open the Airport Utility and select the Time Capsule and edit.

In the Base Station tab change the password and hit update. If you want to retain the password you have been using you can now go back and enter it again and update.

Once this was done I went back to Time Machine Preferences, hit Select Disk and removed the disk it was currently connected to. I then added the disk back again.

It started backing up again as normal and continued to add to the existing backup file.
