I've been running the various DPs for a while now on a separate partition, and last week decided to take the plunge and use a clean installation DP4 as my main OS.

After installing, I've tried going into my old Time Machine backups to recover some files from the old installations, but I can't seem to get anywhere.

I've not set up TM on my current installation, so have just selected "Browse Other Backup Disks" but when TM appears, all I can see is my current files. I can't see anything from the old installations, or any history older than today.

What am I doing wrong here, or is something wrong with TM/Yosemite?

I almost fell for that myself. I installed Yosemite on a partition of my Mac HD and copied network settings etc. from Mavericks during install. Yosemite automatically started 'time machining' onto my existing TM backup, rendering the backup useless in Mavericks.

I had to disable TM in Yosemite and make a completely new backup in Mavericks. I do have a Carbon Copy clone as well.

Beware!

So i'm not going to be able to recover anything? I deliberately didn't start using TM on this DP4 installation until I knew I had everything from the previous backup.

I'm getting the same problem on both the Mavericks and the Yosemite backups which should be on the TM. Not a huge deal if it's lost, but I wanted to make sure before I completely wiped the drive and start a new backup.

So you do have separate TM backups from Mavericks and Yosemite? If so, then don't wipe your TM drive just yet.
If they've been backing up to the same file on the TM drive, then there could be trouble. The backups might not be cross compatible.

You'd better report that to Apple.

[doublepost=1461368059][/doublepost]Before going into Time Machine, open a Finder window and choose "Computer" from the Finder's Go menu. (Being in the "Computer" window is key to being able to browse a different computer's backup drive.)
Then hold the option key and choose "Browse Other Backup Disks".
Hope this helps.
