Used migration assistant from time machine to xfer to new MacBook P. On new MBP, Time Machine sees all of the old back ups from old MacBook. When TM tries to do a backup from new MBP, it tries to create a new back up instead of using the correct old back up on my TM drive. It fails because there is insufficient room on the hard drive for a full back up. If the connection to the old back ups had worked, I expected the oldest back ups to be deleted and just changes to be backedup from the new MBP. That did not happen.
Tried using tmutil verbs inheritbackup and associatedisk, but neither worked. Verb destinationinfo shows the correct drive. Verb machinedirectory shows the incorrect directory. I don't know how to show or change to the correct target folder/directory on that drive. What tmutil verbs should I use?
