Do you have anything excluded from the TM backup?
hmmmm Im out of ideas. I have even tried 'googleing' it but I can't find any answers. Hopefully someone else might have some bright ideas.
If you are using Transmission (BitTorrent software), I think it automatically excludes downloads in progress (because they change constantly).
Also, what is the "Estimated size of full backup" in the Options dialog box?
I just set up Time machine. It appears that the external HD with Time machine has 38.2 GB of usage and my iMac HD has 41.07 Gb of usage.
Anyone know what the 2.87 Gb difference is between the Time machine usage and the iMac HD?

I don't know, but I'd like to wager a guess:
41.07 GB = 38.22 GiB,
where 1 GB = 1000^3 bytes = 10^9 bytes,
while 1 GiB = 1024^3 bytes = 1073741824 bytes.

In the transition from Leopard to Snow Leopard, the binary system
has been replaced by the base-10 numeral system (see).HTML:http://www.macfanatic.net/blog/2009/08/28/snow-leopard-gb-vs-gib/
