Can I use the same external drive to backup 2 different MBAs? One is 3 years old and the other one is a month old. I have no reason to keep any backups on the older computer and wondering how I can delete/erase data from the older computer on the external drive.

I’m currently backing up two machines to a Time Machine folder running on a Mac mini server. It gives each device its own name.sparsebundle file and you set a password for each individually.

Thanks! I'll give that a try...

I do that regularly; the system takes care of all the required actions. Recently, I re-installed an entire internal OS content from a TM external with various other folders side-to-side with the TM backup folder—no problems.
