It's almost time to renew my MobileMe account. Sometimes I have to question if it's really worth the money. I do use the e-mail and sometimes use the web space with my iLife apps.

The price on Amazon is about $30- less than what Apple sells it for. Even with that, I'm not sure it's worth it. Out of curiousity, are there any better places to purchase MobileMe than Amazon?

I got it for under $50 on ebay, I think if you have an iPhone it is worth every penny. The ability for you to push appointments and contacts without syncing, well worth the money in my opinion.

My mom was up for renewal. I told her not to bother as all she uses it for would be to "find my iPhone."

I had no luck with eBay. I bid several times and the price ended up going over the price that Amazon sells it for. Ran out of time, and bought it on Amazon. My subscription ends Nov 2nd, I just hope my order from Amazon arrives by then.

I guess worse case is I'll be without my e-mail for a day or two.

Mine expires today. Snuck up on me. If I buy through Amazon, can I get the renewal code instantly, or do I have to wait for the box to arrive via snail mail?

wait

I think one has to wait it out.
You could try ebay, some of the BIN auctions could get it to you quicker

you can get everything for free with very little work and a lot more flexibility.
gmail for your email and calendars and contacts. dropbox for syncing between computers but also accessing files and uploading from your iphone. it also back them up and has versioning. 2 gigs for free. it is very fast and works well.

You get a box.

I just got mine from Amazon. If you sign up for Amazon Prime, try free for 30 days, you get 2nd day shipping for $3.99 and some 2nd Day Shipping for free, and overnight is $3.99.

You have 15 days from the end of your last subscription to renew, before Apple starts deleting stuff from your account

I was not aware of the 15 day thing -- good to know. I ended up calling a friend of mine who is an Apple dealer on the other side of the country. He gave me a good price and opened the box and gave me the code.

For as "green" a company Apple is trying to become, it seems like such a waste to produce a box for a serial number. I got mine from Amazon, took my :apple: stickers and code, and tossed the rest.

Apple should have a way of renewing online, since you can enter a cc number to have on file for the next renewal.
