Resolved Time to upgrade my ram

Using 27 inch late 2009 (11,1) core i7 iMac.

Trying to figure out the best ram type to buy and little confused.

So what am I looking for is a 16g upgrade (maybe 32g if the price is right) and the best performance ram. however, I'm not really sure how to select and how to confirm it is the right type and the best one for me. Most of the guides I saw only talk about size, not speed.

First thing, getting 32GB to work in a late 2009 iMac requires exactly the right memory.

As for the memory type, Apple says the system needs: DDR3 PC3-8500 • CL=7 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR3-1066

The processor in the system can also accept DDR3-1333 (PC3-10666) - there has been some mixed reports of how well this memory works, but I suspect that the problem cases were bad memory.

And memory other than those 2 speeds will probably not work at all.

And I think one question you should ask yourself: If you really want that much more performance, is it time to get a new iMac? The answer might be yes or it might be no. And the other question you should think about is how much ram do you really need.

Also, in the fture please add what speed processor you have, that could be relevant to getting you the correct answer.
