Time Warner Throttling iTunes / ATV Downloads Again

Saw a few articles on this last year and shortly after it was exposed TW pretended like they weren't doing it and everything went back to be fast and non-throttled. Anyway, I'd noticed that apple tv movies were taking FOREVER to start playing the past month or so. I've been checking regularly at different times of day for the past week and TW consistently throttles iTunes downloads to no more than 300 KB/s. For the record, I have a 15 Mbps road runner turbo connection and am able to consistently get 1.6 MB/s download speeds from newsgroups.

Anybody else seeing similar issues? Any ideas?

Also for the record, could you let us know if you are getting no more than 300 KB/s for your iTunes downloads, or are you able to achieve faster download speeds than that?

Coudln't you just queue up some downloads and let them run overnight? That's what I do with my torre - uhh my completely legal television show downloads

No faster than 300 KB/s on any iTunes downloads - movies, music, etc - same thing on ATV. And 300 KB/s is the peak - it hovers between 250 and 300. I'm seeing similar performance issues with HULU too - often choppy video and I don't ever get speeds over 150 - 200 KB/s - not sure what sort of bandwidth HULU usually pulls down.

Again, no issues most other places. Downloading videos or other content from XBOX Live for example is super fast - right around 1.6 MB/s!

That's all fine and good if you want to download something and watch it later - but when you're trying to rent a movie in HD that is a 4GB+ file and watch it immediately, it causes some major problems. Like hours before you can begin watching.

1-im outside of usa using atv and download movie and after 2 minutes of rent the movie im able to see it , and is hd movies with 3 and 4 gb and after 45 to 60 minutes the movie as complete the download.

2-my internet provider is 8mb donwload until 900kb/s

3- i use time capsule has a wireless

is usualy i see the atv users put the fault on apple tv insted of their internet provider

Just call up their CSR and thell them that you have software that monitors your internet speeds and you can clearly see that the speeds are throttled down by TWC when you connect to the said sources.

Remind them of the net neutrality act, and ask if you really need to get the number for the legal department or would they be kind enough to give you what you pay for? If you go into a lot of specifics, they'll see your bluff, so be vague yet stern!

If they ask what software you are using, there's plenty out there, just say your (TWC) legal defense team can present a "Motion to Compel."

I used to think Time Warner is pretty good compared to Cox, Comcast and the like. That was 7 years ago. Now, the more I hear about them the more I hate them.

Thank god my area is under Comcast. Sure, they have the 250 GB cap, but that's plenty reasonable.

I went with Verizon in the Village and haven't looked back. It's only a matter of time before they go up to 7.1M, but their customer service is incredible next to TWC.

why not just hit them were it hurts and take your business elsewhere? I live in Greensboro, and gave them a very vocal boot after the capping fiasco of last month. Even though they backed down, I went with a local DSL provider. With the throttling, the speeds are about the same anyways...

I will never give a cent to TWC again as long as I live...
