TimeMachine and WD myCloud not working

Hi!
Ever since the upgrade of my onze year old iMac TimeMachine backups have stopped and I can't access my WD myCloud anymore via Finder. I can however access it via the myCloud app, and also via our portable devices (so the myCloud functions properly). And I made sure the myCloud has the latest firmware.

Can anyone help me?

My iMac also has become terribly slow by the way, but the only thing we use it for is picture storage...

In my experience, OS updates break WD's compatibility with TimeMachine, and WD takes an age to update their firmware (if the bother at all).

The only solution I found was to abandon WD products and get a "proper" NAS. In my case, a LinkStation enclosure. It has breezed through repeated OS iterations without batting an eye.

Thanks for the answer. Sadly, I don't have a money tree, so I probably just have to wait until WD releases an update of the myCloud software.

Sounds like there is more of a problem there than Time Machine, you should be able to mount the drive in Finder. Can you log into the device via a browser on the machine you're trying to backup?

Yep, no problem logging in on the myCloud using Safari or the WD app on my iMac, as well as on all other mobile devices. When opening the device in Finder, it just says "connect", which I can click a million times without anything happening.

Have you tried connecting by re-entering the address? i.e from Finder select Go > Connect to server and then entering the server details (as opposed to clicking on it's icon on the left).

I'm not personally familiar with the WD range, I have a Synology NAS. But for example I can connect to my NAS via SMB and AFP, via IP address and network name. That gives a total of four different strings I could possibly use in the Connect to server box (e.g on my network smb://192.168.1.70)

So whatever your WD supports, try them all.

I've tried to connect to the device via the suggested way and this worked. Well, it worked in this way that I can access the device via Finder, but when selecting the device by clicking the icon on the left side, it still won't connect.
After a bit of trial and error (which means nothing more than repeated clicking ) I even managed to start a TimeMachine backup, for the first time since my update to Sierra.

So I'm a big step further, but not yet a definitive solution.

When the disk is mounted, eject it. Launch Keychain Access. Delete the entries that correspond to the login details of your WD myCloud, be careful here don't delete the wrong thing. Redo the step of logging into your myCloud via Connect to server.

I too had problems connecting to my NAS after updating to Sierra.

This fixed it for me.

create the file /etc/nsbm.conf with the following content, if it doesnt exist, otherwise just edit it:

[default]
client_signing=no
