The negative mode I'm referring to is as follows:

System Preferences > Universal Access > Switch to White on Black

All right. Now here comes the fun part...Make sure your monitor is set with Black on White (i.e. this text is black). Then perform the following process (read first):

(1) Point your mouse directly above the "Set Display to Grayscale" option, and relax it on the left side of the "Switch to Black on White" option. Click the option.

(2) Just as the screen switches, click on the "Set Display to Grayscale" option. Now you have a black on white negative AND color.

(3) Go to System Preferences > Displays > Colors: Set to Millions.

I just tried this with Jaguar 10.2.8, I'm not sure if this will work on Panther.

Now take a look on MacRumors, your computer, iChat, your dock icons, the three buttons on the upper left corner of each window (oooh, cyan blue and purple), go nuts.

Can you clarify? i don't understand the "point your mouse..." do you just point, or click, or what? i can't get it to work, i must be doing something wrong...

whoa... this is freaky. :D

i got it to work. all you do is click the 'set display to greyscale', then click 'switch to black on white' (or whatever it says at the time.) and then click 'set display to greyscale' again.

three simplie clicks, and so much weirdness and fun!! :D

this ought to be a good trick to pull on people.... does anyone know if this would keep the settings if you rebooted? i'm thinking that it would...;) :D

ok, here's a screencap from my PB:

oh, i just switched back to normal and you can't view the screencap of the black on white with colour mode.

i guess the white on black thing just changes the output to the monitor, not what goes into the monitor from the comp, so i don't think you'll be able to get a screencap. somone could take a photo though...

I got the same result. Guess its just a superficial thing, not an actual, redrawing modification of the screen's image.

Yeah, the screen captures will not carry the negative monitor view. You still have to manually invert the captured image back to negative with Photoshop.

Or you could just take a normal image and invert it without having to change your monitor.

pnw: "point your mouse [somewhere]" should actually be "point your cursor", and I meant that the cursor should be positioned [somewhere], but do not click. Either way, did you get it to work?
