hi, i recently swiched from windows and got one of the last ibooks and i was wondering if there was any cool tricks that mac OS 10.4 can do

thanks!

You can start with Apple's Mac OS X pages.

Read everything here and you'll learn many tips and tricks. And there are plenty more details about the main features here.

A completely random and somewhat useless trick is to hold down shift when you minimise a window. The "Genie Effect" slows down, and looks cool. Well at least it does for me. Should work with an iBook! I don't know how the speed of the processor affects this.

See? Told you it was useless! :D

Fantastic!!!! It really isn't that useful. I will use it when I train people on using a Mac.

Try doing it with a video playing in Quick Time. I can do it with 2 Hi Def movies at the same time on my MBP! It's amazing!

Dropping a new widget onto the dashboard is good fun, as is Front Row....

Ok that was seriously cool..

if words rock you boat...
hold your mouse over one and ctrl+command+D
if...

Also, I highly recommend Omnidazzle, which is currently on apple's download page.
It has some very cool features.

Didn't know about that one. :)

not necessarily fun, but almost necessary... commad+shift+3 for screen shot
And command + shift + 4 for a selected screen shot or command + shift + 4 then press space bar to select a complete window

Set exposé all windows to one corner, then click and hold on a picture in safari, drag to corner and hover over pages/word, then let go once pages/word has become active window.

Easiest way by far to copy pictures and text from web browsers to word processors.

There's the ever popular: ctrl+option+command+8

(same keys to turn it off...)

Which one is the option key and which is the command key? This doesn't seem to do anything on my system.

hahaha, that's sweet. Scared me at first, but sweet none the less.:D

Command = apple, option = alt, need OS X 10.4 for this option, otherwise it's just greyscale (if I recall correctly)

I set mine to just plain F5. A lot easier if you want ot find the meaning of a word quickly;)

Very nice

An app I really like is Alarm Clock. It allows you to use your Mac to wake you to any song in your iTunes library. It even supports a Snooze feature using your Apple remote.

On a standard Apple keyboard, moving left from the spacebar, Command is the key closest to the spacebar (it typically has an Apple logo and/or a cloverleaf loop type thing).

The option key is the next one over, and Control is the third one over. On most US keyboards, the Option key says "Option" and also "alt", but on some other keyboards, it has a symbol like the one to the left of the circled key in this picture:

Make sure you're pressing all four keys (command, ctrl, option, 8).
