Tips for ripping/encoding/tagging TV Shows?

I'm on a quest to convert my entire DVD library for my AppleTV. I'm off to a good start on the movies...

1. Rip a few with Mac The Ripper.
2. Encode overnight with Handbrake.
3. Tag in the morning with MetaX.

What about TV shows that I'll be ripping from DVD? Any good shortcuts? I haven't started yet, but I'm assuming I'll have to manually name files to go with episode names. I'm also guessing MetaX won't be able to automatically identify these files, and fill in the episode name, number, season number, etc. Maybe I'm wrong.

What kind of workflow do y'all use for this to keep things headache-free?

I use metax to tag all my tv shows. First I load all the shows into itunes. It puts them in the movies section. Then I right click on one of them and send to metax. After its in metax i search for the series in the finder to the right. For example the office season 2. It will find some tags that will match your request. It should fill in everything including album art covers, ratings, ganre, and artist under the info tab. Under the video tag make sure video kind is tv shows, actors, and info under tv tags is filled out like show, season, and network are filled out. Under advanced tag I fill out Track # info(how many total shows in that season). Then at the top of the screen, hit presets and add new preset. Then for every episode just add that preset. Then open the imdb tab, search for the office and find the season you want. It will list all info for that episode, name, release date, and info. Copy and paste where they need to go, and your done. It goes pretty fast when you get the hang of it.

What about your ripping/encoding process? When I do movies, I rip using "Main Feature" in MTR. Then I rename the folder it creates to match the name of the movie. Handbrake automatically names the encoded movie file the same thing.

Do you do a full-disk rip, then separate encodes for each episode? Do you give them special naming by episode number and name at this time?

I simply start in Handbrake, where almost every TV Show DVD has a separate title for each episode, then I create a preset for Handbrake and do batch encodes per disc. There really is no need for MacTheRipper anymore, unless you need the drive free or want to encode everything in one shot.

As for Meta-X, I do the same workflow as above, although I import nothing into iTunes until after it is all tagged. Also, if you put in the track number, make sure you check the box next to the episode name, otherwise iTunes will add the track number to the title.

metax is a pain for me - i've been using AtomicParsely

and/or Parsley is Atomically Delicious 1.5

if only Handbrake could tag it as it rips the dvd's it would save so much time
