I have a radio with a usb port in my car. With my old phone I could just plug it in as a mass storage device and use the radio to control and play the music stored on it. Obviously with the iphone not working like that I need another solution.

What do people think would be the best? I also don't have any setup for using my iPhone 3G in my car, eg holder etc so thought maybe I could kill two birds with one stone - sort out the connection to usb radio and get a sorted car setup at the same time.

Ideas and thoughts appreciated! :D

who is your car stereo made by, is it aftermarket or a stock radio
the pioneer head unit I have recognizes ipods, iphones, and hard drives as long as you have the proper connector

It's a JVC KD-G721...the manual has something about ipod in it...guess I should read that :)

So i need a KS-PD100 adapter to plug in the back of it and connect to my iphone? Or looking at apple support forums that looks troublesome so maybe a KS-U58 and get a holder positioned well so I use the iPhone to control the music?

I just read the apple support forum

I'd still get the ks-pd100 it will sound better since it uses the dock connector and not the headphone out, it will charge the iphone, and hook it will hook it up to the stereo however you cant use the head units controls to control the iphone

the ks-u58 similarly wont let you use the head unit to control the iphone and it wont charge it

Thanks, I'll give it a try and let you know how it goes. Better find a mount of some sort...oh and hope I can work out how to get to the back of the radio :D

Got the ks-pd100 today. Fitted it to the car but haven't been able to get it to work properly as of yet. Also I get a message on my phone when it's connected saying it is not designed for the iphone and will not be able to charge it. So not looking good so far - as it's important to me that the phone is charged whilst driving.

Have switched the input on my radio from changer to ext in and I now get sound. Have to control it with the iphone though. Doesn't seem to be a solution to the charging though as I've been reading on the apple support forums that on the 3g the pin used for charging has changed and so the KS-PD100 adapter won't work. So looks like I may have to forget this adapter and look for something else.
