Intially when I first upgraded my 2018 Mac Mini to 12.3 I was able to enable and it worked just like magic, between Mac and 2018 iPad Pro 11".

Today I can't seem to extend my keyboard and mouse to it, despite the options being on. I just see my main mac display in system preferences->displays.

I can add a display and only use sidecar with the ipad, so my mac sees my ipad no problem (its actually plugged into it via USBC) , but I am not getting the option extend kb and mouse.

I've tried restarting Mac and iPad, turning UC off than back on again... I just can't get it to work anymore. I don't want to use the nuclear option of logging into and out of icloud since it will resync all of my photos again... hoping there is an easier fix.

To answer my own question, simply unplugging it and holding it in front of my mac got it to show up in the display panel. I could then set it on its stand back beside the Mac Mini.

Is it not meant to work when plugged in? Does it use BT/something else for detection that sidecar doesn't? The Mac Mini 2018 has pretty lousy BT, and maybe the usbc charge cable (despite being the offical Apple one) has too much RF interferance...

I currently have the same problem: Universal Control is enabled on both my MacBook Pro (2021) and my iPad Pro (2018). I also see the option for Sidecar (mirror or extend in the Display Preferences) but not for Universal Control. Sometimes it works though but I have no idea why it does not in most of the cases. Tried every troubleshooting step but with no success so far :(
