Can anyone tell me if the current MBP line are manufactured from titanium like the old Powerbook G4's used to be?

If not, why the change and what are they made from now?

No, they use the same anodized aluminum that has been used from day one on the 12 and 17" PowerBook G4s, and since September 2003 on the 15" PowerBook G4.

Oh I see; didn't the Titanium work out? I would have thought it would be a more durable material to construct a case from...?

No, it didn't work out. The alloy they use now is far superior, and doesn't chip like the TIBooks did.

Though they do pit, depending on the ph of your sweat.

imo, the plastic books are the best, but they're not 'professional' enough.

I never really understood why the TiBooks were painted. I had one for 4 years and the paint was in terrible condition when I finally got my AlBook. Titanium looks great when its bare. I actually recall seeing a few pictures from people who had stripped all the paint off their TiBook. It looked excellent. Too bad Apple used a black plastic edge around the perimeter of the "body" though.

I had a Ti book right before they remodel when they came out with the aluminum and I hated the Ti, heat never disappated out of it, the fans were going all the times and my palms would actually sweat when using it. they were awful.

What the hell were you doing with your TiBook?! I sit here typing on mine and it's absolutely silent, with no heat whatsoever. It's been up for about 4 hours too.

I agree, and my palms never sweat using it. The only place it gets hot is on the bottom. I love my ti book. I wish they would bring back the titanium. At least it doesn't dent as easily.

I'd be concerned about heat dissipation with carbon fibers. The reason it's light is because there's lots of voidage (air) in the material, which is in itself very durable. However air has terrible heat transfer coefficient.
