Tizen Becomes 4th Largest OS

So just like that, Tizen quietly becomes the 4th largest smartphone OS. Keep in mind, this is only from smartphones being sold in India alone. Will be interesting to see what happens once the release is rolled out to another 11 countries including UK, France, Germany, Ireland, Poland, Russia, Ukraine, Lithuania, Latina, and Kazakhstan. Blackberry has lost its 4th place spot. Not surprising. I think this video is a great explanation of Tizen. As soon as the big Tizen 3.0 upgrade drops, they need to put the OS on a Galaxy class device.

I'm surprised that it has grown so fast. I wonder if Samsung will ever bring it to a phone here in the US since they are so heavily invested in Android.

4th largest, but man they have almost no apps. I'm assuming all those phones in India aren't attracting many devs maybe because that market may not spend the money on apps. I'm not sure how significant that 4th largest place really is.

The difference here, this OS is growing and will attack developers, those two are dying and developers are abandoning the platform.

No, not at all. Consider the scenario, out of nowhere Tizen suddenly leaped into 4th place. Since they sell mostly in India that means they are probably one of the leading platforms in that country. Its not a winner take all, but rather making a profit and its quite possible being so popular in one very populous country, they very well could be raking in the money.

Well, India is the 2nd most populated country in the world. And you also have to consider if WP is a distant, distant 3rd from Android and iOS. If WP was closer to iOS and Tizen was close to WP, then it would matter more. Call me when WP has 15-20% marketshare and Tizen is close to it within 3-5%. India isn't a rich country. So with further mass adoption, it would exactly make a profit. I don't mind watching Tizen grow but this hardly news to me catering to a poor nation behind only China in population and is known for being thrifty and piracy.

Well there is some significance to this, there's only 2 phones that run Tizen. The Z1 and Z3. Z1 came out last year and the Z3 just last month. So to get here on really just one phone, in one country, in such a short time frame, it's pretty impressive. The real test now is to see what happens when it is released in the 11 European countries. The great thing about Tizen is that it's so damn flexible. It truly is the OS of everything. One thing that I really like about Tizen is that it runs on anything. There's no special version neded for cameras, wearables, smartphones, TVs, etc... And it's so smooth on everything it runs on. Incredible. If the Apps supply gets sorted, it'll quickly be moving up the rankings.

I'm skeptical of any new ecosystem trying to introduce itself at this point. The battle even Windows phone is facing is tough.

The Tizen S series model would have to ship like the M8 with two OS options.

That was my point, will developers make enough money with a market in India? I honestly don't know and am not familiar with what kind of income a country like India makes app developers. It just seems that a poor country wouldn't be the best source of income. My personal prediction, Tizen will crash and burn. Microsoft has their entire PC installation base to attract developers, and that's in a lot of rich countries, and even they can't make it work. I agree Tizen is growing, but don't think it's significant beyond hardware sales, and HIGHLY doubt they will attract developers at all.

Tizen. No developers and that is the reason I didn't buy the new Gear S watch. I have last years Gear S watch and quit wearing after four months because the apps just aren't there.

This being number 4 only made the news because the OS beat Blackberry in users, probably not hard to do. The article that I read basically stated this, that Blackberry has sunk so low that even Tizen has beat it.

Exactly... It's also worth noting that if Blackberry has future it's with Android and therefore it's BB OS will only ever see a decline. So in that sense this 'revelation' is hardly revealing at all.
