Ok so I have a T-Mobile G1 with the $35 unlimited data and messaging plan along with the $30 voice plan, if I was to get a unlocked iphone would I have to keep that $35 plan and voice. Or would I be able to change it and take the voice off or keep it and still take the voice off?

I'm using T-mobile, had the sidekick previously and called the CSR once I had my iPhone they switched my internet to the 34.99 Smartphone plan which is unlimited internet, e-mail, and text messaging.

My voice is the myfaves. If you wanted to remove the Smartphone plan then you could only use the iPhone on a wifi signal. That would work at home/work/school but if you don't have a wifi signal then you would only have voice.

I don't think you can remove the voice and just keep data? If you have a google voice number and myfaves then you can add your google voice number as a fave and research that online... there are guides on how to set it up properly.

ok don't take this the wrong way for the 1st and 2nd posters, but you don't need a smartphone plan. Just get the cheapest one and tell them you have a cheapo slider for the regular internet. I pay 6.99 for my internet plan and just get the voice and text message. its edge internet if anything.

Yes.
Put your sim in a cheap flip phone and call them to add a basic data plan.
the $6.99 and $9.99 plan would do fine.
Its all Edge so only difference is the price they charge you.

About 2 week ago I got the 9.99 EDGE plan for my 3GS. Just tell them u have a Motorola Razor phone otherwise they will try and nail u with a 25.00 data plan.

Cool thing is that you dont have to install a hack on Cydia to run on EDGE on T-Mo, just input the server name on Settings and you're set.

No way is EDGE worth 25 bucks per month.

I originally tried those cheaper data packages, and none of them would work for me. But that was when I had my first iPhone... now on my third iPhone.

I had got the 19.99 unlimited internet working but that was without unlimited texting which was another 20 so 35 saves 5 bucks... and my bill is only 70... so it's not that bad for me.

Isn't the 9.99 plan only for hotspots too... so you won't have access to data then if you're driving, etc... or without wifi --- or am I wrong? Then... the unlimited texting now is 14.99... so that's a total of 25 still?

I was thinking of jailbreaking/unlocking and going to tmobile. Why is it only EDGE? Their website says that they have a 3g network. Are unlocked iphones unable to access it?

9.99 data plan is for EDGE service not WiFi hotspots.

ATT and T-Mo apparently use different frequencies for 3G which makes them incompatible.

Bummer. Thanks for your response. So it sounds like if I want to continue to have 3G, my only option is AT&T even if I were to jailbreak/unlock, correct?

No, the $9.99 is not just for wifi hotspots. Its for carrier data.
Im not sure about the texts, I think my brother is using a $10 plan for 800 SMS/MMS per month.
