I did not think the 5G upgrade was worth it since I always have my iPhone with me anyway. What about you?

I've had cellular iPads since 2012. Way more convenient than waiting to connect to iPhone.

I use iPhones for like 2 hours onscreen time a week. Meanwhile, I use the iPad throughout the workday for email, instant messages (office uses Google Chat), etc. while I keep my normal work on the dual monitors on the PC.

iPhone tethering only works for a few minutes and short moment. Wont work for prolong or persistent connection. Also dears away iPhone battery way faster than you think. There’s a reason why people nowadays pick cellular iPad more than ever, and 5G is not really the determine factor.
Actually, I use cellular iPad so much, I sometimes forget to bring my iPhone with me when I should’ve.

Where do you use your iPad most of the time? If it is 99% at home with WiFi, then you get to decide whether its worth spending all that extra cash for minimal occasional use on-the-go or in an airport. It's not just the initial cost difference to purchase the hardware, but also you have to maintain some sort of a plan with a carrier... $$$ may start to add up for very marginal convenience.

Ordered 5G iPad Pro 12.9. As someone mentioned tethering more than few minutes drain iPhone battery like anything. Now I can browse online with no battery issues and I have combined data plan so no need to buy it separately

I've been tethering off my iPhone for years during my MBA until I picked up my first 2018 iPad Pro 11" in LTE. That was a game changer to me as I'm no longer tethering off the iPhone (which automatically disconnects when the iPad is asleep), it doesn't destroy the battery life on the iPhone and I don't have to worry about the hotspot limits with my carrier.

If you're on the go a lot, I highly recommend getting the cellular model.

I don't have the M1 iPad but both my Air 2 and Pro 2020 are cellular. I will always go for the cellular variant.

Did your office use to use Google Hangouts?

$20 a month x 12 = $240 a year. Considering how much these iPads cost, it seems a trivial amount.

Cellular option also gives you a gps too in case that’s important to you. For me it was worth the extra price to have cell when needed in the times I couldn’t hotspot and to have gps for certain apps. I use a different provider than my iPhone so that way if one doesn’t have great service the other one should and in theory should be rare to be in an area that both the iPhone and iPad don’t have service

I went 5G simply due to T-Mobile giving me back the $200 extra. I won’t be keeping a plan as I get 40gb tethering included in my T-Mobile plan.

I am at home most of the time - I looked at the cost of having a 5g one and decided to stick with using my iPhones hotspot....
