I am having a problem, it was all working fine until I reinstalled
the SMCFANCONTROL application because I thought there was a newer
version.

Now my lowest fan speed is about 4000rpm. It wont go down.

What can I do? I already uninstaled and reinstalled using APPZAPPER,
I shut down my mac, nothing worked,

Im using a 2.2ghz mpb with 4gb ram.

No idea, have you tried making a new profile and seeing if you can set it lower that way?
 
Admin account? I think my account has all the privileges.

As I said before it used to work perfectly, allowing to set the fans at 2000rpm minimum speed. After I reinstalled the program, it wont let me set the fans lower than 4000rpm.

I already contacted the developer but received no answer.
Also I found this website, stating a similar problem:

Reinstall OSX.

I don't understand what is this obsession with tinkering with the inner workings of your Macs. If you want to tinker buy a PC.

Oh and it is cheaper too.
 
Its not tinkering.

Mac OS X has some serious fan issues in the MBP (and no its not mine)

Sometimes when the temperature is over 60c (relatively hot) Id rather speed up the fans than burn my laps.

lol, i understand that, i thought maybe you were trying to keep the fans quieter, i was like, dang, they dont get loud until the machine almost burns up hehe

i havent thought about trying that, just unplug it mine stays nice and cool when running on battery if im just surfing

i know that dosent help with your current issue, im sorry
 
that happened to my smcfancontrol...but luckily it happened after I had already set up my settings. When I tried to make another a few weeks later, I got into the same issues you are in now. Did you just uninstall the app, or did you uninstall, reboot, and reinstall? Try that. Also, make sure you delete the prefs for smcfancontrol if there are any rather than just the program.
 
Maybe i am misunderstanding but have you tried double clicking on the RPM field and manually lowering it down to 2000 or wherever you want it? You can use the slider but you can also manually put whatever RPM you want into the field. Good luck

the field of choices reduces from 2000-6000 to 4000-6000 for some odd reason

Haha, your comments make me laugh. They so ridiculous!

Controlling the fan speed is an "obsession with tinkering with the inner workings"? Ok chief, you said it!

I use Fan Control v1.1 to bring on my fans at a lower temperature because I hate it when my Mac gets quite hot and the fans aren't running much at all.
 
I have the opposite problem. I can set my fans to 1500 rpm and I thought on a SR MBP the lowest was 2000 rpm.
I thought SMC fan control settings go away after power off.

Something to try is if you have a bootcamp partition, boot into that and download input remapper you can set the fan speed there see it you can set it to what you like.

According to their website:
"All changes smcFanControl does to the fan controlling get lost after you shutdown your computer (power off, not restart) or enter standby mode (as far as you don't have smcFanControl running) . Minimum fan speed then falls back to the system defaults values."

Couldn't you just shut it off and tell it not to start on boot?

Not really a FIX per se... but it should stop the fans from going so fast all the time.
 
Somehow its working fine now.

I think we really need this application improved.

I am having this same issue. I can't get my smcfancontrol to go below 3500 RPM's. If I power on my MBP from off, smcfancontrol will not be working and my fan speed will be normal. But when I start smcfancontrol it will only let me go between 3500 and 6000 RPM's. If I quit the program, it will not slow down till I shut my MBP down, a restart will not work for the slow down. I can't seem to find an answer for this either.

Any help would be great!
