Im on the fence about buying an iPad.

I sold my iPad mini 3 years ago waiting for the iPad mini 4 to released, ended up buying it but as a xmas gift for my dad haha

Anyways I already have a Macbook 12 and iPhone 8 along with a high PC gaming desktop.. I've been wanting an iPad but have been waiting as I don't need one. I love my Macbook, I wouldn't sell it, I use it a lot at home as I don't care to sit at my computer desk to consume my internet needs, and youtube media consumption , and I also bring my Mac when staying out of town for media consumption.

I don't bring my Mac on the road with me at work, due to size, and cost, and my phone gets used heavy sometimes at work and stays on charger.

if I had a iPad I think id bring it with me everywhere maybe even replace my Mac when out of town, also take a bit of use off my iPhone. I love the new look of the iPad Pros and have my eyes on the 11" one but I have zero use for the overkill horsepower and Apple Pencil so I can't warrant the $1000CAD price tag, but after seeing its design I can buy the dated looking iPad and iPad mini.

so its either spend big or wait to see if apple ever updates the mini or non pro iPad.

Also thinking do I need another computing device?

What are your guys thoughts on the iPad when already owning a ultra portable laptop and smartphone , and what do you guys think on apple refreshing the non pro iPads to the new design is it ever gunna happen ?

I love it. Even the biggest iphone pales in comparison to the ipad mini for media consumption. I use mine for media consumption AND content creation. But even if you just plan to use it for media consumption, i think it’s totally worth it. Will be better than your iphone & your macbook for that hands down. And perfect for traveling. At least thats my opinion.

If you got another ipad, would it be the regular ipad or the ipad mini? If you can wait a few months, rumor has it both will be updated in March.

Im not sure cost is equally important to me as size, but I think id prefer a iPad Mini 5 as long as it got the same design as the new iPad Pros and Face ID

My only hate is how they removed the headphone jack on the new iPads.., if the Refresh is just a spec bump I'm unsure what I will do...

Yeah, i am curious what Apple will do as well. I imagine that ultimately Apple wants to phase out the first Apple pencil, so that would mean the regular ipad & ipad mini would indeed get the ipad pro redesign. But wether that will be in 2019 or in 2020 is not so certain. I hope it’s this March, but maybe it will just be a spec bump and they will save the redesign for the 10th anniversary of the ipad in 2020. Guess we’ll find out soon enough. I would also would like an ipad mini 5 with face ID, slimmer bezels and pencil 2 support. That’d be sooo sweet. But i am not holding my breath. It’s already been 3 years.

A lot of the Apple users go through this. I had reservations on getting another iPad because I wasn't using my iPad 2nd Gen much. But I had the issue of whenever I traveled I had to remove stuff off the iPad to fit a few movies on. So then I thought if I got the pencil, would I use it. So far I've used the pencil a lot. I haven't taken notes yet with it but eventually I will add that in.

What I don't like is carrying my heavy MBP around. The iPad works for that mobile light travel. :)

The new IPP remind me of the iPhone 5 or simply the bottom half of a MBP. I love that solid look. I don't see Apple changing that design any time. Could it be that they jumped the gun with the first release of the IPP? especially with the charging of the pencil. I like that the 10.5in IPP allows you to place your fingers on the edge without intruding on the screen. Down side is the fingerprints everywhere lol

Oh another thing I like on my iPad is the TV app. Its kinda like having Apple TV on your iPad. Only down side to TV app is that you can't watch any of the content when you go outside your region. So if you are from the US and you go to the UK you can't watch any of the cable apps. However you can view your rented and downloaded content.

If you already have the Macbook then I wouldn't bother as that device is small and lightweight as it is. With an iPad you would either get a physical keyboard for it making it similar to your Macbook or you would stick with the virtual keyboard which would make it a bit smaller and lighter device.

For me the 12.9" iPad Pro 2nd gen has pretty much replaced bringing a laptop with me on trips but it has its limitations and for me a physical keyboard is a no go on that as it would increase the weight too much. I do like the bigger screen for watching videos and getting desktop-like web browsing.

If I buy a new iPad I will not be buying a keyboard cover as I already have a 12” MacBook. Would defeat the purpose of the device for my usgage... I don’t need a laptop replacement lol

The entry level iPad is great for consumption purposes. The Pro can play videos as well but it’s like driving sports car just to go shopping, not what it’s meant to do.

It doesn’t sound as if there is much room in your life your yet another competing device- maybe buy it from Apple so that you get the two weeks or more return period and try it out yourself.

In my mind, I can't imagine Apple keeping both Pencil designs... I'm thinking they would want to bring the entry level iPad up to be compatible with the new pencil. that may not mean a complete redesign, but at least something that allows the new pencil to charge and work with the entry level iPad.

I had some type to visit the local apple store and play around with the 11" iPad Pro, and after fooling around with it, its too big and heavy for how I want to use it, and I'm just going to wait and see what they do with the next iPad mini.

sadly tho I wish I didn't go in there because now I want to upgrade my phone 8 to a iPhone XS lol
