To cancel my order and queue?

I really fancied the idea of going to the Apple store on launch day (either trafford centre/arndale in manchester) to soak in all the atmosphere of my first Apple launch.
I pre-ordered the 16GB 3G and was hoping a pick up in store option would become available, which evidently isn't going to happen.

Should I cancel and go to the store and queue? I really don't mind, in fact, I quite like the idea of getting there really early.

Waiting in line is much more fun than waiting for it to be delivered. It was my first launch, too, and it was fun :) Great way to meet people, talk geek, and just have fun

Plus, here in the states they gave us coffee, hot cocoa, and a few pastries
 
If by "atmosphere" you mean total waste of time and clusterF* then sure go to the store. I did, but only b/c I was out of town on launch WiFi launch day (I did do a store reservation though) and only decided to go 3G at 4:45 on 3G launch day. I pre-ordered my 3GS and loved having it delivered to me and not having to wait in line.

Also, given apparent supply constraints, i.e., pre-ordering only lasting a day in the UK, where was a couple weeks in the US, you are taking a huge risk canceling your order and hoping the retail stores have decent stock. But hey, if you cancel, and wait in line only to be told they are sold out, that is just part of the experience and atmosphere too.

I was really hoping to pick mine up at the Trafford Centre as well. But I too have pre-ordered hoping Apple will add that option anytime soon on the order. I doubt very much that will happen. If you haven't ordered all the bits you need for it why not go and queue for them. You may be very lucky to get on if you queue as I suspect they may be in short supply. Whereas your guaranteed one if you have pre-ordered.
 
haha just go for the experience, keep your pre-order too.
if you get one in-store that is great, but incase you don't you still have your pre-order at home.
then you have 2 options, return one or sell one to make a quick buck! since the demand is there!
... this is given you have some funds to do both. i might do this in canada :D

Thats a good idea. I dont think you will have a problem selling as the demand is still very high.

Haha, yeah I just thought of it. Really considering doing that. Also, if it doesn't sell you can just return it within the 14 days, but I am pretty sure that won't be a problem. For me the tax is what kills us here, and not sure what premium people are willing to pay. Will give it a shot though.
 
You can always return the pre-ordered one for a full refund within 7 days of receipt under the UK distance selling regulations, provided you don't open it.

This is the UK. No coffee, no pastries, no cocoa, no chat. Sadly!
 
I wanted to collect from the trafford centre too but another issue is that the actual shopping centre doesn't open until 10am anyway and they don't open it early just for one shop.

I've just been into the Arndale one and the staff still havent been informed of what will happen on release day. That store normally opens at 10am Fridays, but they *think* they'll open earlier. They said the Arndale itself opens at 8am, but they may open the whole mall earlier just for this.

They advised me that any changed opening time will be publicised on that particular store website, (eg, www.apple.com/uk/manchesterarndale) so to keep checkin there.
 
Cancelled my online order as it said "shipped by 7th June" so could get a few days later than that so am going to take my chance and try get in the Regent St Apple Store on 28th May, have never done a first day thing before, would love tips off anyone that has

Is it worth for instance queueing outside overnight to be sure of an iPad for when it opens or could I realistically get there say 7 or so and still stand a chance ? if there is going to be 1000 or so people at opening time I would rather stay out overnight outside the Apple store

It depends on how busy of a store it is. I showed up at 5:05am and I was the 4th person in line, by the time they opened 4 hours later there were probably 100+ people in line. You should probably just check it out the evening before the launch to see your chances. If there are already people in line, just join 'em :)
 
I found it WAY MORE rewarding to have mine delivered at 9:05 am in the morning than stand in line in the mall.

To each his own but I HATE lines:mad:
 
I was disappopinted that there was no option to reserve and pick up in store too. This would have been my first time waiting in line for a new product launch and I too really wanted to soak up the geek atmosphere.
The way I look at it though, I'd rather be guaranteed to have iPad on the UK launch day rather than be disappointed and have to wait until the 7th June.
Will definitley go to the Apple store in the Trafford centre to pick up a case - really hope they have the Belkin Grip Vue clear case because I can't find that anywhere in the Uk
