I think you'll love the iPhone. I agree with the poster above about syncing with Mac, but will add that synching with Windows works well if you have the full version of Outlook (not Express). Otherwise, it syncs with a Yahoo! address book if you don't have Outlook.
The calendar feature itself is great, although it is still missing a "To Do" function which you might want. Many expect this to be forthcoming in an update, but no one knows when. There is a Notes feature, but it does not sync as yet.
I'm sure you have widespread access to Wi-Fi on campus, which will make all the web apps snappy, and allow you access to the iTunes Wi-Fi store from almost anywhere.
I find texting a breeze and really like the keyboard - although it does require you to be looking as you type (not good for surreptitious texting in class). It's also missing MMS and multi-address texting, all of which is in the same limbo as the "To Do" list.
One of the simplest and most overlooked features of the iPhone, I find, is the inline mic on the earbud strings. I travel a lot, and when I'm stomping around an airport or in a cab listening to my iPod, it's just wonderful to be able to accept a call and start talking with just a click of the mic. Then, once the call is over, you click the mic again and the music resumes. Think of when you're moving around campus with arms full of books... I actually like using the earbud mic a lot of the time because it's extremely clear at both ends of the call, and you have both hands free and can move around as you talk.
I use the web features all the time; often when I am at home and within steps of my PC. On Wi-Fi it's just so quick and easy. When on EDGE, it's not great, but not bad either - and I much prefer getting full web pages than a text only WAP version. Everything integrates so smoothly, that it just seems difficult to do things when not using your iPhone. I use the Google Maps feature a lot when away from home too.
The camera is fine for daylight snaps, but is pretty much useless for anything else. No video either.
Hopefully this has helped in your decision-making.
