I want to jailbreak, but I want to keep my warrantee.

I want to jailbreak just for the 'native' apps and for the springboard/summerboard stuffs. No unlocking or switching carriers needed.

So do I just wait until Feb? or do I play with jailbreak until Feb, then turn legitimate then? I am a little worried that February will turn out like the ringtones. Yeah, apple has 'custom' ringtones, but with HUGE restrictions. Will apple have native apps, but they cost $5 a piece yet they do not allow chat programs or theme changing programs. (seriously, what does apple have against theme changing?!?!?! window$ has theme changing built in, even vista has it built in! why does OS X not let you change themes!!!?! (yes you can dl other programs to do the trick but that just adds an unnecessary step)

anyway. . . your thoughts?

yeah, I pretty much want to. so do i go for 1.1.2 or stick with 1.1.1 and jailbreak from there?

On 1.1.1 it s much easier to jailbreak. I updated my phone to 1.1.2 and cant jailbreak it. If you update you will need to downgrade again to Jailbreak From what I understand.

Yep, been there done that. It can be done. I was scared the first time I attempted it last week before I read how to do it because I kept getting the error 1015. You have to use a program to break it out of that mode. Then my phone would not activate. Waited at least 30 minutes. Just showed one bar. I had access to all other functions (I have AT&T). I figured it was an incompatibility with the 1.1.2 baseband and the 1.1.1 firmware so I went ahead and did the jailbreak / prep and then updated to 1.1.2. Everything went smoothly once I read all the other posts and downloaded the opt.zip file for jailbreak on OS X.

same thing except I restored after it wouldn't activate, haha thanks mabye ill try to finish with independence. later on today

yeah, just use independence and upgrade to 1.1.2 and it will activate. it wouldnt for me either when i downgraded to 1.1.1 but i could use everything else. it will eventually activate. just go ahead and jailbreak. it's nice having the apps back. the iphone isnt as much fun without them.

if you jailbreak an iphone can u then plug it into itunes and it will download ur music an vids etc or do u have to activate it in some way?

Just Jailbreak 1.1.1 and enjoy! I have no need to install MB's of international keyboards and have heard more negatives to 1.1.2. Just be diserning and informed regarding the native apps. I saw terrible battery life with Dock and the chat clients so I removed them. Many others are outstanding, NetFlix manager!

These will not void warranty. Only unlocking gets you in a a bit of a problem; even that has a revirginizing process.

So, about this revirginizing. Does it really does what it says? I mean, its not possible to tell whether the phone has been unlocked ever before?

and question two, is it still possible to end up with an bricked phone? now that there's revirginizing?

woo hoo, i am jailbroken!! i used jailbreakme.com and it was really easy. (I had 1.1.1 and never upgraded) once i decide on some themes and get some apps ill post a screen shot.

Are you just sticking to 1.1.1 and not upgrading to 1.1.2? That's what I've been thinking on doing. Then, if you want to upgrade later to 1.1.2 or a later version, you can just restore which should remove all of the stuff added. Is that scenario consistent with what you know?
