I'm trying to figure out if the LG screens have a better viewing angle, particuarlly vertically, than the Samsung ones do. The viewing angle on my matte Samsung screen seems to be extremely narrow... if I position my head so the top of the screen is fully illuminated and colors are correct, the bottom looks a bit dark. If I move my head down so the bottom looks right, the top is a bit dark. Very annoying. Didn't happen on my old CCFL Powerbook, so I'm trying to figure out if its a property of the new LED screens, or just of the samsung.

How do you check which brand makes your screen?

Open up system preferences and go to Display
Go to the Color tab, select the Color LCD profile, and then click on Open Profile.
The information is displayed on line 13:
9C67 = LG
9C68 = Samsung

Generally speaking, LG is the good one, Samsung is the bad one.

Great I have the Samsung one... Well I guess that AppleCare will take care of it if anything bad happens... Oh and so far no problems with it.

Mine's an LG and I can see slight darkening at the top or bottom, depending on the angle, but it isn't anything major. Most of the time I don't notice it at all.

I've had both. Neither is particularly great in this regard but well within the norm of TN panels.

One thing that helps is raising the display to a more natural position. I keep my MBP on an mStand most of the time and have the screen angled so it is perpendicular to my desktop. I then adjust the height of my chair so my line-of-site naturally lands in the top third of the display. This not only makes using the computer a lot more comfortable, but it also makes the viewing angle problem virtually invisible.

Mine's an LG. The viewing angle is fine for one person. Its definitely viewable for 2 but dimmer at greater angles. I do notice a slight darkening around the edges, like some of those stylized black and white photographs... makes me feel very dramatic when I use my MBP :cool:

My LG viewing angle is so good, I can see it when I'm sitting on the back side of the machine.
