To MM or not to MM

I have the trial open right now and it will commence on April 16th.

I don't need the email as I currently use Gmail and Hotmail (old from years ago).

The online storage is somewhat nice but it appears that there are far cheaper versions out there for more storage. I am not sure if that makes them more or less appealing due to their potential instability.

Syncing...not really an issue. I use SalesForce and Gmail that sync and Google Sync can pull them in.

I guess the idea of seeing my desktop is nice but totally unnecessary in my case.

Is there any point for me?

well you seemed to list all the negatives you're having.. do you really need someone to answer this for you? (also, no one knows if it's for you :eek:
 
MM is certainly not perfect, and a mix of other non-apple solutions will be cheaper and also provide more functionality. But to say it is a waste of money is missing the point.
 
The money part of it is not the issue, I am just wondering what the benefit of it MM is over the combination of the other services?
 
If online storage, synching of email, contacts, notes, files and browser links across multiple devices or computers isn't important or well served by other means I see no benefit for MM to you.

The nice thing about MM is it is a one stop shop for everything for me. I use to to share and back up some files across two Macs and two IOS devices, I use it to share and synch our contacts and calendars across Macs and IOS devices (including Google calendar which I synch with my work schedule) and I use it to share email across one Mac and two IOS devices.

If none of that is needed for you are already covered and you are happy with the individual point solutions then it has no value to you IMHO.
 
I only use it for the worry-free syncing between my MBP, my iPhone and the cloud, contacts, calendars, settings etc... I dont use it for email. iDisk is horribly slow and unusable except for the occasional small file, and my friends complain about the photo gallery feature being extremely slow as well.

I don't have an iPhone right now as I was kind of waiting on the iPhone 5 but it looks like that is delayed until the Fall.

Does the iPhone sync to the desktop when you close enough and WiFi linked?

I am ignorant to this stuff.
 
MM works good for me. I can access my calendar and contacts from any website which is nice.


Everyone has their own needs.
 
MM is quite useful. Instead of getting the individual parts like email, calendar syncing, contacts syncing, online gallery, online storage and etc. from a myriad of services, it's all in one centralized place. There's also Find my iPhone/iPad/iPod touch which comes in handy. With Apple products, you're not paying for a single great feature (like those Android commercials touting ONLY the 4G or the big screen), you're getting a whole bunch of them lumped together.

MM also allows you to keep multiple computers in sync in terms of calendars, contacts, mail, notes, etc. It's easier to keep track of my stuff online when it's all in one place rather than 3 or 4. But your needs might differ from mine.
 
Not to mention the ability to stream music and videos archived on idisk, access files from anywhere on any platform, the back up application (which does keep iterative back ups of files) and the Back To My Mac function allowing you to access any time machine back up or other external hard drive attached to an AEBS or Time Capsule. As a package nothing offers everything MM offers.

There was a Amazon vendor early this year selling the boxed version for $42 and I snapped that up, but the best I see now on Amazon is $80.
