To much overscan 2007 Mini

so i have an old 2007 mac mini with lion on it i use for a media center i had it connected directly to my tv via dvi to hdmi cable and everything was working fine but then yesterday i decided to change my setup slightly so i connected it to the receivers hdmi port and now when i turn on overscan i get things cut off and when i turn off under scan i get back bars on all sides
