To Pro Or Not To Pro...That Is The Question.

With the intoduction of Apples new Notebooks (MacBook Pro and Recently the MacBook) I have a bit of a dilema. I have no problem dropping the cash for either one. The amount of Gaming i would be doing would be the Civilization series. I am not a fan of the Macbooks "glossy screen", and the intergrated graphics. but at a price of 1099 i wouldn't excpect to have a video card. I also want to have a Gig of ram in one of these bad boys. I hope to get a bit of battery life out of which ever one i get, hopefully 3-4 hrs.

There you have it. I am stuck between 2 laptops. is it worth the cash to get the pro or will the macbook do the job? I am a student, who wants reliabilty, and i want what ever i purches to last more than 4 years. I am a heavy computer user. So i need something that will last.

would it be cheaper to buy and install the ram myself or just get it off apple?

Integrated graphics would kill any purchase of a new machine for me, Its a handicap and Apple knows it. The GPU has become almost important as the CPU these days. If you are going to make a big purchase and buying a new machine allways is why would you want something thats been handicapped? Its sad as Heck Apple doesnt have a $50 option for a real graphics chip. A better choice would be a laptop that has a removal graphics card in my view just because things are moving so fast on the graphics front. Only ones who should think of the MacBook is non gamers.

The six questions you need to answer are-

Do I need integrated graphics?
Do I need a bigger screen then 13"?
Is 17" too big?
Do I need FW800?
Do I like aluminum?
Do I want my keyboard to light-up?

If money is not a handicap then just get the MBP already!

Money is somewhat a problem. It just means it delays how long tell i get it. 17" is way to big. 13" i have no experince with so, i dunno about the size. my 2 problems is,

-Glossy Screen
- Intergrated Graphics

I am in exactly the same possition, I have the cash for the MacBook Pro but the MacBook IS very tempting and would mean I could get a 20/24" dell monitor to go with it...anyway...

If you put none Apple RAM (say from Curical) would it void the AppleCare???

This is simple overlap time for Apple, they just intro the new macbook and yes its close to the Macbook Pro but there will be a new Macbook Pro in the next couple of months. Wait is my advice if your interested in the Pro. Apple uses this slick marketing to try to move you up the ladder, they have used poor graphics for years to try to get folks to move up to their more powerful models. Patience is the key and never buy old tech as new.
