oi~

well, i'm new here (currently run a BB forum and have a Storm 9530, yesterday i got a iPhone 3g and switched carriers as well.. more later, maybe :}

so i have my own domain, (roeiboot.com) and i added the email address to my iPhone but it does not seem to push (keep in mind i am used to BB instant email :} in settings it says "Fetch New Data, Push" when i click on that and go to "Advanced" > my account > i can only pick "Fetch" or "Manual"... does this means i can't use push for that account ?

tks.

you will have to check that your hosting company supports push and has a push server. I know mine doesn't and I'm fairly sure your's won't unless you pay a premium for your email. the way I get round it is to only have one account on my iphone (my mobileMe account which HAS push) and then just forward email from other accounts to the mobileMe one as it all happens instantly: email hits gmail/own domain email, then is instantly sent to mobileMe account which is instantly pushed directly to iPhone!

hope this helped!

thanks.... but i'm trying to keep it free :}

does Gmail push ?

ymail has free push. my gf used it for a while, but suddenly it doesn't push anymore. any idea?

not yet (I was also disappointed, since they have Push on their Android phones..)
but apparently it is on the shortlist.. which could turn out to be a very long list..
not sure what else to suggest. just google round for free push email services? I doubt there are any but you might get lucky! either that or fork out the ~$100/yr for mobileMe (I should warn you though, its only benefit is push email anf find-my-iphone. iDisk is absolutely useless if you have a mac. the web interface isn't too bad though.)

hmm, never used ymail but I had a problem the last 2 weeks with my iPhone's push. it wasn't receiving push notifications. so what I did was go to advanced settings in the settings.app and turn off push, and set each of the push-able services to "manual", reboot, set them all back to push and turn on push and it still didn't work.. for 15 minutes, then it worked again!
3.0 is full of ghosts.. hopefully 3.1 clears them out.

I used Yahoo Push for the first year with an iPhone. The first 3 months had problems. The last 9 months were good. When I got my second iPhone (3g) I switched to MobileMe (it had just been released). MM took about 3-6 months to become stable. Now on my 3rd iPhone and still using MM without problems. Your only other option at this time is an Exchange Account for Push Email.

i too purchased MM. its idisk is slow and worthless, but push notification seems ok now than the early days when MM launched. can't live without ical push.

strongly considering MM.... can i pay per month, which would help the decision + if i pay for it they better make sure it works :]
