I have a dichotomy. I have a top spec 24" 2008 iMac and a MBA Rev A (2008). I love them both but since I got an iPad I have found I hardly use my MBA anymore.
Since last August I have used it about 3 times. I use a MB and HP laptop for work/travel as I need to connect to customer networks and use MS Project a lot. This also means I don't need the MBA for work travel anymore.

I WANT a new shiney iMac 27" pimped out model. I WANT a new 13" MBA pimped out model.

I NEED what I already have with the one exception of games. I'm not a big gamer but I'd really like to get Portal 2 and a couple of other recent games but I'm not sure my current iMac will run them. I also need another 1TB at least of storage....

so, here is my problem.

Should I sell my MBA (it is very hard to let go... I just love it) and iMac 2008 and get myself a new iMac 27" with 2TB + 256GB SSD????

I'm sure I will miss the MBA though. I like using the iPad but only for consumption.... it is useless for creating/editing/work.

Any advice if Portal 2 will run on a 2008 iMac 7,1?
Any advice at all????
Money is not the overriding factor here. I can afford any spec iMac etc but I am Scottish and tight so I only want to spend the required amount....no more!!:D

Dunno how the 2007 iMac 7,1 is with games, but on my 2010 Model 13",4GB RAM, 128GB SSD MBA I can play Portal 2 at native res (1440x900), on high settings, 2xMSAA, and trilinear filtering and get 45+ FPS easily. Hopefully that gives you an idea as to how well the 2008 iMac would be able to play Portal 2.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for that. My iMac runs NVidia cards which will possibly be OK. MBA is GMA X3100 which will be VERY poor performance.
Funnily, people have said that if I bootcamp into Windows 7 then the GMA X3100 works fine (around 10-20fps). Under Leopard it runs below 10fps on all low settings.... if at all.
Maybe I should buy Portal 2 and try it out.... I might be happy:confused:

If you do want to get a MBA 13", wait till June or July if you can.

That is when the next SB, thunderbolt, and possible backlit keyboard refresh will come in.

I actually play wow very well on my rev A macbook air.

I know that it is an older game, but there is a lot going on with it

Did I read right that you take a MacBook and HP Laptop away with you? Why did you buy the MBA if you have a MacBook?

Thx again for all your answers. I think I'll just buy Portal 2 and try it.

I have an old MB that I use for terminal connections to servers as I need it. It mostly just stays connected in a server room.
The HP is to connect to customer networks and runs Windows (unfortunately).

I have many other laptops/desktops/Xservers etc but that is not my problem. I now have a MBA and iMac that are really for personal use now, but I rarely use the MBA, even though I love it.... so that might just get sold anyway. Look out on eBay... here it comes!
