Here's my story:
Last friday (6/2/06) I finally broke down and went to the apple store and bought a 15" MBP. When I got home it was quiet, no whine. The next day, I did the firmware update and installed windows. Of course after that .... the dreaded CPU whine. My current fix is to run QuietMBP, as MNK didn't work for me.
My MBP is a week 16 build. While I can live with running QuietMBP, I'm not entirely thrilled that I need to run something to make it quiet. After reading all of the stories around here and other blogs, it seems that sending it back doesn't seem to solve anything.
My predicament is that this is my only computer, as I sold my 12" PB to partially fund this one. (and I mean partially) My iBook at work crapped out, (busted display) so I only need to bring it to work for a couple more weeks (I teach).
I'm wondering now whether I should return it and ask for a one of a later build date (~week 20), or just deal and hope that Apple comes out with a fix for it in a future update.
What do you guys think?
