Hello All,

I finally decided to buy my first Sonos speaker (Play 3 - was originally thinking 2 Play 1) for my largest living space and then build out from there. Unfortunately, there is no way to connect it to my television without the connect, and my wife and I don't watch that much TV. Still, since it will be sitting in my television room it feels foolish to buy a speaker that will not allow the TV to play through it.

The Playbar looks very nice, but i don't have $700 to get started. The connect would drive the cost of the three way up just to watch the tv and have the Sonos audio. I heard it also isn't the most desirable workaround compared to the optical input in the Playbar.

Maybe I'm just SOL, and will have to keep listening to my tv through it's native speakers or cough up another 150 for a cheap soundbar (which I would most likely skip) if I wanted improved sound quality over the native television speakers.

Any opinion on the subject is welcome.

Thank you,

ZLM

Well first of all, if you would get a Playbar or the connect, will you still use the Play 3 in your living room? If so, is there another place in your house where you could use it efficiently?

I think this question might answer yours

Are you planning on getting more Sonos speakers for your place? It's a great whole house system. But one speaker, even a Play 5, for TV? Not the best solution. If all you want is something for your TV and you want to grow the system later, get the sound bar.

Thanks for the replies. Yes, this would be a first purchase towards entering the sonos ecosystem (not a one time). The soundbar just seems like a big purchase at $700 for someone who would mainly want it for music playback, but will be starting in the living room where the (lightly used) television is. Still, I guess as long as I would be using it in conjunction with the television sometimes it's the right play, and I can add more down the road for other rooms (or some 1's to the living room).

Thanks again,
Z

I'm a huge Sonos fan and I love my Playbar. It's pretty good for music, too. I'm wholeheartedly behind you starting there. You're going to want more Sonos almost immediately. I've got them in every room and just recently rounded out my living room with a sub and two Play 1s for surround. It's hard to beat.
