http://www.cultofmac.com/122253/mot...-apple-store-as-iphone-camper-sleeps-outside/

"A gang of 14 thieves arrived on mopeds to raid Apple’s flagship store in Covent Garden, London, in the early hours of this morning and made off with a handful of valuable Macs and iOS devices. Robert Shoesmith, a man who is already camping out for the iPhone 4S, was woken up when the store’s alarm went off at around 1:15 AM."

Who in their right mind would actually choose to sleep for a week in front of an Apple store where there are gang's around?

This guy Robert is a idiot (along with anyone else who does this) and is lucky he didn't get robbed himself!

I don't know about where you live, but where I'm from a gang that rides mopeds is probably a gang you don't need to worry about ;)

I agree. It's not safe, I don't know why people would want to do that just for a phone. Honestly, i'd much rather stay at home rather than stay outside for 24+ hours for a phone. If I did wait in line, I would only go a couple hours before opening time. Not 24+ hrs

You'd flunk the FBI entrance exam.

:)

It's just humor.

Figured there might be a sliver of truth to what localboy said which is why I asked since the guy said on his blog he was going to live off donations and not spend any money of his own $ while he was camping ;)

There's the couple who's been waiting in front of the NYC cube for over a week too.

Good lord people are crazy... they have been practically homeless and sleeping on the streets of New York for sixteen 16 days just so they could be 1st in line!

Reading just a few blog posts, it seems like they've actually had quite a bit of fun. I guess it's one of these things that isn't about the destination...

Here's to the crazy ones! :p Numbskulls or not, we've been having fun! There's an element of danger in almost everything. We wouldn't trade this experience for anything. It's been an interesting ride...

Please explain for me the need to have your iPhone immediately rather then wait a few days. I really want to know what that is, other then pure childish I WANT I WANT I WANT IT NOW attitude.

You obviously don't get it. Is the motivation to get your iPhone 'first' or within the first few hours? No. It's more about it being a fun experience when you can meet fellow Apple lovers, have really interesting conversations, trade app recommendations, and much more. Sometimes it's fun to 'live' outside for half a day or so- gives a different perspective on life.

God, who do they think they are, spending time enjoying themselves be going such horrible things as waiting outside for a consumer product!

Seriously, why do you mind if they hangout near a store spending time with people who share their interests? It's about an experience and making enjoy yourself.

I've camped out, and while not for a week, I have enjoy it.

No sense of humour? Sounds like FBI material to me... :)

Mopeds in London make perfect sense. Nimble, for dodging traffic. Can slip down narrow lanes and between cars. Faster than cops on bikes. Quieter than motorcycles. Cheaper to buy/easier to steal than motorcycles.

What was that movie The Italian Job? Where they used Minis to get around Rome? I've often thought it time to remake the remake and use Smart Cars.

To be fair, Covent Garden is usually quite a nice place (so I can see where the campers false sense of security came from:p)
