To the people who tried out or have both the HTC One and Nexus 5,

Which phone do you like more?

I'm thinking of getting one of these phones as a second phone but can't decide which one to get. I tried both out in stores but I want to see the view of someone who had them for a while. I loved the display and camera of the Nexus over the HTC One, but the speakers of the HTC sounded amazing. The One's body also feels like it will survive falls more compared to the Nexus'.

Do you guys think their prices will have a big drop when their new phones come out, or will it just be a few dollars off? I'm still rocking a 5S so I don't really want the new HTC and Nexus phones coming out this year.

I'm kinda new to Androids and I just liked these two so I'm sorry if I sound stupid on some of my questions. Thanks guys!

Nexus 5 would be my choice (i just ordered mine a few days ago)..Its got the latest internals and is a stock google product..It also comes below 400$ making it a perfect second phone..

Nexus 5 for several reasons.

1. No Sense bloatware on the Nexus. Blinkfeed is cool at first, but becomes old. No need for it IMO.

2. Hardware buttons are out of touch with Android. The buttons are backwards (and not capacitive) on the One. Plus, the HTC logo should be the home button, but instead is useless unless you root (which is a PIA on the HTC One).

3. Camera. The One's camera is not very good. Not the the Nexus has a perfect camera either, but at least in HDR+ mode, the Nexus takes 'good' pics.

4. Updates to Android. HTC is still really slow to update. Not that updating is really important on Android anymore since Google updates the Google Apps via the Play Store now, but the difference between Sense 5.0 and 5.5 was a significant update that took way, way to long to get in the U.S.

5. Hardware. The Nexus 5 has better and more up to date hardware regarding the CPU/GPU. Games are smoother with higher fps. Just a better overall experience IMO.

6. Price. Nexus 5 is $350 unlocked. Can't beat that price for an unlocked phone!

Just a few of my thoughts. Don't get me wrong, the HTC One is also a great phone, but given the choice between the two, the Nexus 5 wins out every time. Again, just my personal opinion.

Both are really nice. I had an HTC One for about 5 months and have now had the Nexus 5 for about a month. I like the Nexus better mainly due to stock android, runs very smooth and fast. The Nexus camera is also better IMO. But the main sticking point is I'm getting better batteryife with the Nexus, main reason I gave up the One was because of the battery life. Not only was it fairly short, it took forever to charge, at times I was using it as a gps and even though I had it on the car charger, the battery % still went down. I do miss Zoeys though, those were fun.

HTC One if you can live with the camera. Seeing that you are rocking an iPhone 5s, I think you can.

I find Nexus phones, stock Android, and Google updates to be boring as of late. KitKat was a good update but nothing like coming from Gingerbread to Ice Cream Sandwich or Ice Cream Sandwich to Jelly Bean 4.1 with Project Butter. Android has become very polished as is.

Even nearly a year after release, Engadget compared 2014 smartphones with the phone. TechRadar ranks it #1. PhoneDog fans still rank it #1. It has a personality and charm that endures.

If you plan to drop your phone alot, then go Nexus 5. Metal dents and scrapes. But I say wait for the HTC One (2014) or go GPE if you happen to prefer HTC One in stock Android.

If you can deal with the Camera I would go with the HTC One. Mostly for the design and build. It still looks great even a year later and the Snapdragon 600 is still way more than enough for any app or game currently in the app store.

I like the feel in hand of the n5 over the One. The soft back is just really comfortable.

Personally, the One is one of two phones (moto x as well) that I can live with what the manufacture has done to android. Blindfeed is really great if you follow social media/news feeds. Sense is a really good skin too.

The IR blaster on the one is actually useful. There is a built in app for TV "surfing" and it can actually give you more information than the guide on your TV.

If you are buying the phone outright, I do not think the One is worth $200 more than a nexus 5.

I currently own the Nexus 5 but had the HTC One before that. I would say that I enjoyed the HTC One more than the Nexus 5.

First of all the screen of the HTC One is better in my eyes than the Nexus 5. Also the speakers and music quality is much better on the HTC One. And the build quality of the HTC One is better.

I would only get the Nexus 5 if you really want to have the updates as first.

Nexus 5..HTC One is going to be replaced by the M8, so its really not the best time to drop $500+ on this device..The Nexus 5 at under $350 is an amazing value and you can probably sell it for around 200 around the holidays and have the nexus 6 (and still only end up spending $500 for two phones)..

Moto X if you want a good balance. Might be the best Android phone for newbies. The first true Googlerola phone where you see Google's fingerprints and DNA all over it. Has enough customized features to differentiate itself from Nexus phones but can be closer enough to stock Android than HTC One with Sense.

Coming from an iPhone 5s, the HTC One or Nexus 5 dimensions might be a turn off as well. Moto X has a 4.7 inch screen with a smaller footprint than the One. Motorola studied hundreds of hands. They came up with a great and comfortable ergonomics with the Moto X. And Moto X has nano-sim. Easier to switch from iPhone 5s to Moto X without needing adapters where the sim doesn't always fit.
