To those who've got/will get the MBA: Is it/will it be your primary machine?

ie your only computer or the one you would use the vast majority of your time.

Good to see the MBA get recognition as a capable primary computer. Since rev B/C, I've always seen it as such (in addition to others like gswat and scottydale)

I have to say "no" today, because I have an iMac on my desk.

But we will see. That may change in the future. It sure feels like it could be a primary computer. Attached to the right monitor and external storage, any currently-shipping MacBook could be (for my uses).

I will be picking up a 13" 1.86 w/ 128gb SSD and the 4GB of added RAM. I intend on this replacing my 2007ish MBP, that is insanely slow these days (its the model pre unibody). I am hoping this will be sufficient for my sole computer, and during the holidays, I hope to replace my 23" Samsung glossy monitor with a 27" Apple display that should compliment the MBA very very nicely with the convenient power supply, audio and display port connections right there. I'm hoping it will be fast enough, and give me the ability to have an ultra portable laptop and then turn it into a desktop machine like an iMac-esque when at home. What are you guys' thoughts?

Although the MBA 11" will drive my 3 Monitor setup, I have my MBP docked up and working fine.

Been using a Mini duo (G4 on a 24" and Dell 9'' hackintosh) as computers and an MBA 11'' would be a massive step up from both. The Dell has become quite a beater but is incredibly resilient.

Although it is a 100% capable primary machine, it won't be my primary machine since my uses for a computer are very heavy. (The mac pro in my sig is my main machine).

I would however say for most people this would be an absolutely excellent primary machine.

Yes-- on an impermanent basis. I do plan to get an iMac when I pay off the Air, but I can't afford to buy both at once. So, since the Air will be the most powerful computer in the house, it gets the big projects. This will include some things it can do, but for which it really was not intended... like HD video editing or gaming.

yes... I have ordered the 11 with 128gogglebits SSD and 4gigglebites Ram. I have 2 other macbooks which I will probably use for the more laborious tasks, but the air is going to be the machine I will have on my lap most often.

nopes, I find I get on best with ultraportables when I use them only when I absolutely have to, and rely on the desktop machines rest of the time.

The 13" MBA will be my primary personal computer but I will still be using the 24" iMac 3.06 GHz with 4 GB RAM and 1 TB HDD for my work computer. That is my work horse. I'm looking forward to have some fun on the Air.

No, not my primary. The 15" in my sig is my primary as I have too much data (270GB) to fit onto a 128 GB flash drive (this is also why I didn't opt for the $300 upgrade to 256). I usually use the 15" as a desktop in clamshell mode attached to my ACD with an external keyboard etc..

So the Air will be my light-work, traveling, dilly-dallying around machine. I like the idea of using it just for: music, writing, and photo editing on the go. It seems pure.

I will keep the files uptodate with an external time machine set up on my desktop to transfer from work to portable and dropbox vice versa.
