I've been reading through the forums and how people have risked 'Bricking' there iphone to update to 1.1.1.
Can someone please answer this one question?

To all of you who have updated successfully, Has it been worth it?

Have you gained a lot from the upgrade?

Is the phone a lot better or just slightly better?

Thank you,

I had an unlocked, jailbroken iPhone 1.02. I wanted to upgrade to 1.11, so I followed the guides (that were added 24 Oct) on the link above closely, and now my iPhone is an unlocked 1.11. All the features work perfectly. If you follow the guides closely and make sure you complete EVERY step, you'll be fine :)

I'm not sure if I'm imagining this, but 1.11 seems slightly faster to me, and also, e-mails seem to download quicker.

Hope this helps!

Having not seen this guide before I am very tempted to upgrade to 1.1.1 from my unlock 1.0.2 but I really don't feel confident about using Terminal incase anything goes wrong. I have read the guide a few times but want to make sure its a relatively easy process?

Thanks

*EDIT* Help! I followed the aboce instructions and got through the terminal stuff with no problems. When opening Independence to click Pre 1.1.1 Upgrade that button is greyed out and cannot be clicked, what have i done wrong?

Make sure you have installed SSH through Independence. I already had SSH through Installer.app, but uninstalled it, and re-installed with Independence in order to enable the button.

Funny you should ask. I was just thinking for about the third time that 1.1.1 was definitely worth it. YES, I am in Canada so I have an unlocked phone. YES, it took a while. Quite a rigamarole. I am a Mac user. I started with the guide produced by the Elite team http://code.google.com/p/iphone-elite/wiki/DowngradingBaseband to "revirginize" my phone and remove damage done by anySIM. After that, I basically followed this pattern: virginize 1.0.2 -> independence 1.2.5 prepare for 1.1.1 jailbreak -> upgrade 1.1.1 -> independence 1.2.5 jailbreak 1.1.1 -> anysim 1.1.0. Let me tell you: it took a while. If you're like me, then it was fun staying up till 1:00am to get it done. A few things did not work "out of the box" and I had to screw around a bit to figure out each little problem. If you are slightly faint of heart, if you are not up on your UNIX commands, then I would wait for an easier solution. Both the dev team and the Elite team claim to be working on one. With the current state of knowledge and tools YES you can do it, but there is considerable risk because there are LOTS of places for you to screw up.

Also after completing the upgrade there were a number that did not work. YouTube did not work, so I had to locate and install a hack for that. AppTapp does not yet work with 1.1.1 (from the Mac) so I had to sort of manually install the installer.app so I could manage third party apps. I had to remove then re-install all the third party stuff. I had to re-install my ringtones. Etc. There was a bit of work. But 1.1.1 is nice because you don't need Summerboard. The OS already has a way of handling more than 16 applications. Really nice.

So bottom line: YES it was worth it. The all-time nicest thing is the double tap on the homekey. Wonderful interface improvement for controlling the iPod and for quick calls. There are a half dozen other subtle little things that are a delight. I did not notice any speed change.

Ever since I updated to 1.1.1 I have been getting frozen screens while overnight charging and sometimes when im just going on the phone:mad:

Thank you for your inputs.

Has any one noticed any increase in sound output with the 1.1.1 upgrade?
