to upgrade to M.lion server ?

I have a mac mini 2.53GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4Gb RAM.

Am considering upgrading to M.Lion server but would appreciate input from the more technical readers on if this machine will support M.Lion.

Your Mac must be one of the following models:

iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
Xserve (Early 2009)
If you are running Lion, you can find out if your current Mac qualifies by clicking the Apple icon at the top left of your screen, choosing About This Mac, then clicking More Info.

Thanks for the pointer, but I have no idea when the mac mini was made !

note: I'm also surprised that "age" is used instead of technical specs - although I can sort of guess some link here.

Also tried the apple/about this mac/more info guidance with no success.

I've been reading about the Mountain Lion server, one thing caught my attention and is a clear show stopper.

mySQL is not built-in, I have to download and install it.

At which I think I will keep my SL OSX server running as is for the moment.

Try this link. Enter the serial number and it should tell you the year. I do agree it is not very technical. I think you have the minimum specs.

The only times that it would make sense to upgrade to ML server is if you are currently on Lion server. Snow leopard server is much superior and the last of the proper OSX servers. I ran a leopard server (G4 machine so didn't run S.L.), the hardware was upgraded recently which necessitated moving to ML server. I was unable to fully transition due to limitations in the webdav implementation....so I run a ML server, which runs SL server in VMware! Its the only way I could get it to work. ML natively does VPN and OD functions, SL does all the web functions.

Hi,

So I checked my mac mini its a "Mac mini Server (Late 2009)" so that would be ok.

But to be honest i'm no specialist in server stuff, so the complete SL setup is fine for me. Particularly if it gives me everything I need *without* further install, all the better.

Guess I will save some $ here and have dinner with my wife instead
