toast and dvd burning

Guys, is it possible to burn divx onto DVDs that CAN be read by both windows and Mac users alike? I know the OSX DVD burner software (inbuilt with OSX) is not able to do this.
Are you able to do this with toast (i.e. burn the dvd on your mac and let windows users read the files?)

I don't think Toast allows cross platform DVD-roms, could be wrong though, it's CD-rom support is excellent. There doesn't appear to be any parameters to allow for PC directories, although if you saved the correct suffix, you might get a result.

Are they really big DivX files?

well they are about 400mb and it would be nice if i could keep them on a dvd instead of having several dvds hanging about.

Yeah, that means that if you are burning a DVD-Video (meaning MPEG video that is compliant to the DVD spec) using Toast, Toast will create a DVD that is cross-platform (and stand-alone player) compatible. If you burn your DVD from the Finder it is basically turned into a data DVD that is only readable on a Mac.

I think if you make a Hybrid DVD and burn your Divx files to it that they will work in both PCs and Macs, just as if you burn a CD-ROM. I'm not positive though as I have never done it.

Do you have a DVD-RW you could try it with first?

Yeah I have a spare DVD I guess. However, I dont have toast, I just wanted to make sure that toast supported DVD burning that can be read by pcs as well.

There's the obvious problem that DivX is not MPEG, a DVD-v disc as burnt by Toast (i.e. dropping a VIDEO_TS folder created by DVD Studio Pro into Toast) will create a cross plateform DVD as it conforms to the DVD-video standard which is observed by all manufacturers, the problem arises when you try to burn a DVD-rom with an incompatible file structure.

Toast will burn CD-roms to be cross platform, but I'm still not convinced that it can handle a DVD-rom cross platform.
