Pro 11" 256 GB Silver and Magic Keyboard. :)

I get a little giddy when I get a new tech device.

I know, I know...the iPad Air 5. I was tempted. Especially some of the fun colors. And part of me will kind of miss those colors, but I think the silver is sleek and modern. I often have a cover anyways. I really wanted the better camera, 4 speakers instead of two, the face ID. I was going for 256 GB regardless, so I paid $150 more to get a few extra features. Though I'm not one to throw away money, this is a purchase I have been planning - and I am rewarding myself from a bonus earned from a work project. The 120 Hz may also be on my list of reasons, as I play a few games which may benefit from the higher refresh rate.

What I am most excited about it also getting the Magic Keyboard. I am still going to get either a skin or case compatible with MK, as I think I will still be using as tablet predominantly. I have MacBook Pro (13" M1) for work. My mom has had a serious illness and I have been working remotely quite a bit, working from hospital. I try to plan my evening/weekend work to be things I don't need my amazing work monitor (34" extra-wide monitor). I hope that the iPad/MK combo will be sufficient to do some of my work. If not, I can return MK. I am eager to test it out.

I have an older iPad Pro (10.5" and 64 GB). I am maxed out on storage there and I have opted for 256 gb because I don't want to run into the storage issue soon. I do save a lot to cloud, but since I anticipate working more on this iPad, I prefer to have the space. I have a lot of apps offloaded to keep my current iPad functioning.

I also walk to work and carrying my laptop everywhere is not so fun. I am pending shoulder surgery for a labrum tear, but trying to put that off because of my mom's illness, so whatever I can do lighten up my backpack/purse, that is good.

In six months, I may wish I had waited for the new iPad Pro version, but I'm really at a stage where I will benefit from having a more work-functioning iPad. I keep putting off the upgrade.

I would say bring that 150 difference to the Air5 down by looking around for a good deal. They are out there! I just found a killer deal on amazon by accidentally also checking the prices for the cellular model. Or maybe your ok with a tiny scratch in the back that you are going to cover up anyways on a amazon warehouse deal.
Can you actually send back amazon warehouse deals? I actually don't even know....

$150 is negligible for a device you may keep for a while. So, I think it was a good decision.
Yeah - I tend to keep my devices for a while. I went from iPhone 6 Plus (bought used) to 12 Pro Max. And current iPad is five years old. I use my iPad every day - even more than my phone. It's like paying more for good shoes. Worth it.

Yes. AWD or Amazon Warehouse Deals has basically the same exact customer service as Amazon.com. The one exception would be...if you need to return the product you cant automatically get another one shipped to you. Limited supply. But if you contact CS they often will work with you. AWD is a very safe purchase solely on the return options.

I did the same thing same iPad and storage mines 5G as I work outside as oftern as UK weather allows. With the magic keyboard I use it more than my Macbook Pro M1. Apart from work its not used much as my iPad has the same power. The screen and cameras sold me over the air. If you use external SSD’s your be happy with the extra speed as well.

I think your be very happy!!! I was.

When you need it, you need it. I was putting off upgrading my 2017 Pro 12.9, too, since I found the 2020 iPad Pros quite lacklustre. So happy to upgrade to the 2021 Pro. FaceID is so much more convenient than TouchID when you're using keyboard+trackpad and I'm glad that the new Pro is compatible with the Logitech Crayon I use on my other iPads.

Enjoy your new iPad!

Agreed. I'm still considering what to get for my mom (currently on Pro 9.7). With the mask mandate getting lifted soon, I think I might just get her a discounted 2021 Pro 11 instead of the Air 5.

You can.

One thing to be wary of is Amazon does disable/delete accounts with too many returns and only they know the definition of "too many".

I've been tormenting myself for a few months now over whether to get the iPad Pro 11" 256gb and may have gone for the iPad Air 5 but I'm just not that into TouchID anymore having enjoyed FaceID on my iPhone 11 Pro for a couple years now. I too have the 10.5" iPad Pro 64gb and like you is maxed out on storage. I opted for the Logitech Folio Touch on my 10.5" and soon found myself just using the stand part and leaving the keyboard in my laptop bag (I mainly use a 16" MBP with external KV(M) - (I don't think KVTP is a 'thing' yet for Magic Trackpad users!))

Anyhoo I'm sure you've made the right decision going for the 2021 iPad Pro 11", I don't think I'm gonna be able to wait it out until the 2022 upgrade, but then I can't see there being much in the way of new features other than perhaps M2 and a camera spec bump as usual.

Congrats for the new iPad and MK! I have the same iPad but didn’t use the MK, as I rarely write a lot when on travel. I have Apple magic keyboard (desktop version) on my work desk. You could buy battery alarm apps (I used BatteryPro) to avoid the iPad stay too long on charger (which will shortened battery health).

I have a 11” iPP 2nd generation and MK. I use it 100% attached to the MK, everyday. I have a 2021 12.9” iPP scheduled for Monday, I already received the white MK and a 2nd Pencil 2. I wanted more screen and larger keyboard given I only use it attached. Don’t hate me but my wife is happy to replace her iPad 6 with the 11” iPP. I use my iPP for work and she just uses it for play…

I think the iPad Pro and Magic Keyboard, at least for my work flow and needs which includes lots of note taking, web browsing, emails, and Microsoft Word apps is such a great and productive combo. There’s so much versatility with the Touch based interface, but also all the short cuts and gestures built in to the Magic Keyboard. I have no regrets and plan to always have an iPad Pro and Magic Keyboard combo.

FaceID on an iPad Pro, especially mounted to the Magic Keyboard is so much more convenient than even the phone. I would never want to go back to TouchID. It’s so nice using Safari Keychains for passwords with FaceID, making online purchases using FaceID. It’s fantastic.

Honestly, there won’t be anything on the 2022 that will offer an objectively better experience than the 2021, at least on the 12.9” since it already has the XDR miniLED display. It’s already way overpowered, has great screen, FaceID, quad speakers, Center Stage, dual cameras/LiDAR, Thunderbolt port. What the iPads need is a revamped iPadOS!

Good choice. I actually think the Air is the odd man out in the lineup. It would be appealing at $100 less, but as is, the price is too close to the pro. And the touchID in the power button sucks (my wife has a 4th gen) - way worse than either faceID or touchID in the home button.

Great choice. I can’t go back to TouchID after using FaceID (hopefully this happens on the Mac at some point). This combined with the upgraded cameras make it a better value to me. And the MK is excellent.

Enjoy your new iPad & good luck with the shoulder. I had surgery a few years ago for a dislocated shoulder so know how it feels.

The 120hz is something I also though would maybe only make a difference for a few games but it actually makes a big difference system wide. Going from 60hz on the iPad 5th gen to 120hz on the 11” 2021 iPad Pro was quite the treat and I don’t think I will be able to switch back to a non pro ipad solely because of promotion. Either way congrats on the purchase

Well I super love my new iPad and MK! I can’t think how I managed so long without it. I can definitely work well with it. The keyboard and track pad are just amazing. I think I like typing on this keyboard better than my regular work one. The perfect “clicky” keys.
