So to compile the whole project into one thread as suggested and to toss up another one for discussion....here i go:

I have a Powerbook G3 Wallstreet. 300MHz and 128Mb of RAM. No DVD Drive.

My plan is to put OS 9.2 on it first and play around for a while, which i heard i will have no issues with. However next, id like to install OSX, mainly for appearance and program compatibility.

Here are the things that i believe i need to do before OSX can happen:

1. Max out RAM to 512
2. Get larger ATA-5 HDD
3. Downlaod Xpostfacto
4. Install OS9
5. Install OSX through Xpostfacto

Correct?

Questions are:
1. Will i suffer from terrible performance running osx on this powerbook?
2. Will there be any conflicts with video (i read that somewhere)
3. Is it worth it, or should i be happy with OS 9.2?

Your thoughts an opinions are encouraged....im new to mac, so please speak layman...=P

Project 2?:

I am also the proud owner of a never before used iMac 333MHz. Its ORANGE! (my fav color) Im interested in dropping linux on this system to delve into learning linux as well. Is this plausable, or worth it? Maybe some thoughts there too....

Thanks to all who have already helped...and in advance, to those who will...=D

slow? dont be silly....we DO have lives outside the forums....(who am i kidding?!)

Anyway thanks for all the tips..... i'll work on the network card once i get it installed.....i'm picking up the usb card next week.....and i should be on my way....yes it has a CD drive, and DVD capabiliy as well...i just dont have the drive.....

im loving this thing though....makes me want to get a G4 like ASAP:D

ok to revive this thread.....

After discovering my Laptop only had 64mb of RAM, i needed to wait on the OSX install to get more ram.....I just ordered two low profile 256 chips last night....should be here monday.....:D

Over the weekend....im going to crapusa to pick up a Type II USB Firewire card, and external HDD enclosure....double bonus

I have upgraded to 9.2.2 and everything runs great....having only 64mb of RAM still...lol

After the chips are installed, i will DL a copy of XPostFacto and install it.....this tricks OSX into thinking the laptop is USB native....

I purchased a copy of Panther, and jaguar. I was told panther will actually run better than jag on my laptop.....this true?

To install...i will boot to OS9....then run x installer through xpostfacto...right?
