I own a Tom Bihn Brain Bag (backpack). High quality stuff. I've long considered getting the Empire Builder. Let me know how you like it.

I gave my wife the small Cafe Bag about 6 months ago, and she loves it. I had a difficult time deciding which bag I wanted to get for her, but luckily I had a business meeting coming up in Seattle, so I was able to go to the Tom Bihn store and check them out in person. As others have said, very high quality stuff.

yeah, i'll certainly be back to tell everyone about it! it's taken me ages to decide which bag to get. i was going to get a crumpler, but they seem really expensive for what they are. can't wait for this new one. it's in san francisco at the moment...so just a few thousand miles away - but it's going USPS express so it should hopefully not take long :D:D

i'm so excited...powerbook will be here tomorrow...finally

I think you'll be happy with that bag. My experience with all Tom Bihn products has been very good to excellent. High quality, really nice customer service and products that really are designed with a lot of thought put into them.

My first experience with them was about three years ago when I ordered a Medium Cafe Bag to keep all my daily stuff in. Ordered online and was awaiting delivery. Apparently there was some really weird weather in Oregon, causing delays in UPS deliveries. Someone at Tom Bihn called to apologize for the delay in getting my bag to me! When it arrived, it was exactly as described and is now currently next to my desk. Over the years, it seems that it has been impossible to wear or tear any part of it.

I'm also considering either an Empire Builder or Brain Bag for my next travel companion and I'll be interested to hear about your experiences.

Cordially,
B.G.

Great choice as I purchased the same bag about five months ago. I would like to suggest the Brain Cell to protect the laptop if you did not order one. Brilliantly, I accomplished a three foot drop while the Powerbook was inside the Brain Cell. The Cell protected it so well during the drop. Well worth the fifty bucks. Great idea to order the strap at the same time as you have done.

Enjoy your bag as I have enjoyed the Empire Builder.

i didnt order the brain cell as i've got a foofbag as a sleeve, so i'll see how that goes for now.

it'll also be nice to have a bag that hardly anyone in the UK will have! :D

not looking forward to the duty charges though :(

ha! i looked at the thread title and i was like "ooh, i've got one of those!!" then it was me that started the thread...heh

i LOVE it. the only thing is i dont like the shoulder strap. the bag is too big to wear on your shoulder, and the strap isn't wide enough to support the weight of it proprtionately. i dont care though, it makes me feel important carrying it like a briefcase :D

Aaah, good to hear. Glad you're happy with it. I ordered the Buzz for my 12" iBook. It's a bit small, but I like the slingpack style, you can truly take it anywhere and it's the definition of portable... while the Empire Builder looks good to me, I couldn't carry such a large bag around as much as I imagine I'll be able to with the Buzz... YMMV.
