Does anyone know if the Tom Tom dock has an FM transmitter and if it would allow me to play the Sirius/XM app through my speakers? I was going to look for a car dock for my iphone but thought I should wait if that's what the Tom Tom dock will do.
I just watched the keynote part with TomTom and the CTO says that "Yes we will play your music through the car stereo" which tells me it will have an FM transmitter.
Not so quick, he didn't say that. Remember, it has an audio-out jack on the cradle that can be used to connect to a car stereo. You can't definitively say that there is FM which conflicts with the about.com article. The fact that it has its own built-in speaker leads me to believe that they didn't put an FM transmitter into it and give the option of connecting it with an audio cable. There's a lot of marketing-speak and obscurity involved in the announcement and TomTom press-release text. I wouldn't put a lot of faith in too much extra in the dock.
That said, there is some evidence that it does have one built-in (see above post and link).
I really hate having to charge my batter when it's 88% full just to use it with my current FM transmitter. I can feel the battery capacity shrinking...
I've gotta say I really hope I'll be able to use the advanced GPS w.o having to plug my phone in. I really hate having to charge my batter when it's 88% full just to use it with my current FM transmitter. I can feel the battery capacity shrinking...
BUT using the GPS function for Navigation will kill your battery very quickly without being on external power.
