Hi.

does anyone know how my tomtom app worked when my phone was in airplane mode?

it only turned off after i turned off location services.
i thought that putting your phone on airplane mode stops all signals?

latest iOS on iPhone 07

I did a quick bit of research and it appears since iOS 8 or later in airplane mode, the wifi and Bluetooth is disabled. However,GPS remains active.

Which is what you would want if you are using your device for location in an area where cell signal is not available (e.g., backcountry) and you want to turn the cellular off to preserve battery (searching for signal where there is none is a power consumer).

Never thought about it, but this is really great to know! Makes a lot of sense too. The issue with "airplane" is radio transmission. GPS is receive only.
