Ahead of getting my new phone on Thursday I've bought some iTunes cards (2x £15 for £20 @ Argos. Yay!) with a view to purchasing a turn by burn navigation app.

I've pretty much decided on the TomTom app but Co-Pilot was also in the running. I noticed that Co-pilot required activation once the app was on the phone, suggesting that the app is locked to the handset it was first activated on (correct me if I'm wrong).

The question I'm asking is if I buy the TomTom app now and use it on my 3G, will that preclude it working on my new iPhone 4 when I migrate to it? Will I need to 're-activate' it to work on the new handset? Or can I just go ahead and use it on the new phone without needing to do anything more than sync it with my MBP?

Just wanting to be an eager beaver and buy the app ahead of the iTunes servers getting mashed on Monday for iOS4 and Thursday for the big event itself!

Ta!

The TomTom app is not locked to a particular handset. Wife and I both use it on our respective iPhones (which are synced to the same iTunes account). HD traffic is locked to one phone (although it can be tranferred very easily).

Excellent - thanks for the reply! I feel a bijou spendette coming on later this evening.

One gotcha I found is that TomTom requires an update to be compatible with iOS4, otherwise it will crash... a lot.

Interesting, hopefully TT will come out with a fix in the next 48 hours otherwise there'll be a great many cross people come iOS4 on Monday.

TomTom will have to come out with an update very soon, the app crashes all the time on ISO4.

Agreed. It's a shame too, since the voice instructions work pretty well with a backgrounded Pandora already. TomTom has had a consistently polished experience compared to the other apps, with the exception of this.

TomTom 1.4 iOS4 compatible has now shown up in the UK app store. Looks like it's time for a spend!
