Sorry to start another TomTom thread, but here goes...

Just bought this app before I go on holiday, in W. Europe, tomorrow. Trying to install it, and have got stuck with the progress bar at about two-thirds of the way along. It's been sat there for ages now. Have >3Gb free space.

I tried cancelling it previously and starting again. When I reconnected the iPhone it showed about 3Gb of "other" usage. Having restarted the iPhone this has gone, and restarted installation through iTunes. It has now stopped, again, at the same point.

Activity Monitor shows be iTunes is still active, using ~1.7% CPU cycles and 118Mb RAM.

Has anyone else installed W. Europe TomTom? Success?

I installed navigon Europe yesterday and it must have taken 20-25 mins to sync. The bar stops and does not move for ages it's a big app.

Try again and go for a coffe or something, watching it will seem to take forever.

OK, was being impatient. All fine now!

As for features/first impressions...

Menu system is good, works well with iPhone hardware. Some features I had hoped for aren't there, such as traffic and customisable voices etc - I guess (hope?) an update will address these soonish.

The actual routing/navigation is exactly as expected. Found a good local route across town using IQ Routes to avoid a well known traffic hotspot on an A road.

The quality of the maps is standard TomTom, as far as I can tell. They are basic, but functional. GPS lag is noticeable, but no worse than my Windows Mobile device running TomTom Navigator.

Haven't been on the motorway yet, so don't know if it has the "Advanced Lane Guidance" that some TomTom dedicated units have.

Will post back if I notice anything interesting...
