Other Too late in the year to purchase iPhone with iPhone upgrade program?

I probably should have purchased an iPhone 8+ as soon as they were released but I put it off until now (Jan 11, 2018). Do you think it is a bad deal to purchase an iPhone this late in the year using the IUP? I would like to get a new phone September/October of 2018 but does this mean I am locked into having to wait until January of each year before getting the latest phone?

I have an iPhone 6 (with a healthy battery) but it is starting to get laggy and I would enjoy having a better camera and more than 64gb of storage. Any advice would be appreciated!

I maybe wrong but I believe you would still be able to upgrade in Sept/Oct as long as you pay off more than half the cost of the phone

It takes 12 payments to pay off half of the cost of the phone so if I bought an iphone 8+ today I would only have made 10 payments by the middle of October 2018. To get an iPhone 9+ I would have to make an additional two payments to have the renewal date of the contract changed. It just seems to me like I am throwing away 2 payments. It doesn't make sense to me but I'm probably misunderstanding something.

Why not wait for the next iPhone instead?

Or is your current iPhone failing to do what you need?

I actually prefer not picking up new phones when they are released. I usually get my phones in December. If getting the phone when it’s released is your thing then yes, you’ll need to make extra payments to be able to upgrade

Buy at cash price, sell when you’re ready to upgrade.
