too many bugs

Yes I fully understand it is a beta. But it is a public beta that puts Apple's reputation at risk if it is crap. I am concerned the build quality is not there compared to Mavericks 6-8 weeks before launch.

I have lost count on how many problems I sent it. The last was that Lightroom's plugins could neither be correctly installed nor invoked on top of the beta. For me that was a deal breaker. So I restored to Mavericks and LR and the plugins are back to normal.

I wish the best to all of you who hang in there on the beta. For me, there was not nearly enough bang for the buck.
 
Not nearly enough bang for $0 that's impressive...

Also third party compatibility problems on a beta OS does not really mean OS problems.
 
I don't mean to be rude, but I don't think you actually fully understand that it's a beta. I guessing this is the first beta of OS X you've used. It is not unusual at all for the OS to be like this during the beta. And it's not uncommon for there still to be third-party issues after the release version is out.

Maybe you can ask Apple for your money back... oh wait... well, you could ask for a free release copy... oh wait.
 
I don't think people have a good understanding that the whole POINT of a beta, is for "us" to use the beta, find the bugs, report them to Apple, so that they can be be corrected before the public release.

I suspect Google is to blame, it seems that everything with Google, and its apps, are always in a persistent "beta" stage. People want to compare it to that.

Google and the video game industry, it seems like it's fairly common for a video game to have a "beta" that's practically a timed version of the GM and it's just used as a more fully fledged demo for marketing proposes.

On the other hand I can totally see if a AAA video game had a "real" public beta a lot of people would say the game sucked. People just don't understand what a beta is and it sure isn't helped by companies releasing essentially GMs and calling them betas to avoid people saying their product sucks.

It's just an endless cycle of bad and don't even get be started on how misunderstood alphas are. ;)

According to the latest rumors, Yosemite will probably not launch until October. Additionally, while you may have had some issues, plenty of people (myself included) are running the beta without any major issues whatsoever. The worst bug I experience is every once in awhile, Mission Control becomes disabled and a logout-login is required to fix it. Is it a dealbreaker? Hardly. And I have 27 tabs open on Safari right now, with Yosemite's Safari staying vastly more responsive than Mavericks did under that load (with 8 GB RAM to work with).

As others have said, it absolutely does not put Apple's reputation at risk. The definition of a beta, its nature, is a work in progress. If this was the Golden Master public release, that's one thing, but it's not, it's a beta that is still months from release. If you want a guarantee of problem-free computing, stick with Mavericks. The entire point of a public beta is to get more people using it and discovering the bugs, so that when the public release occurs, it's that much more stable.

This, exactly this is why Apple makes betas only for developers, people don't know what beta software is.

Is people like you that will ruin it for us next year, maybe this is the last time Apple will make a public beta available and maybe why it will never make an iOS public beta.

And, once again, we are forced to remember that there are people out there who interpret "beta" to mean "early access club" rather than "unfinished software."

I can't see how bugs in a prerelease software will affect Apple's reputation.

Prior OS X betas were no different then this. I guess the only difference is that this is the first full public beta since 10.0. Still people understand that its a beta and there are bugs.

Think of it another way, the more people who use the beta and report back will help apple catalog and address those bugs, making the release version that much more stable and rock solid.
 
I have to LAUGH when someone uses a BETA and complains about BUGS.
UMM DUH that is why they called it BETA or it would be FINAL hahaha.

As someone who has beta tested software since the early 90s, I understand you obviously don't know what a beta is. It is not Gmail or Google Maps. It is pre release software. It can contain many bugs, could be completely unstable, and should not be relied on for your main computer. In short, it's not done yet.

There are only 1 million legitimate public beta users, so I doubt it is going to affect Apple's reputation all that much.
