Today, my new MacBook Pro arrived. I have been using Windows like forever (since 1990) and today moving to MacOS. It took a lot of faith for me to make this jump and I am glad I did it.

Now, My objective is very simple:

How do I secure this MacBook so that if it is missing or stolen, I or the thief will not be able to do password recovery to login? I have password protected account, but from resources online, if you forgot the password, you can do recovery by Disk Utility Ctrl-R or something and do reset password, login and the files are still there.

Should I use root account instead? So that when I forgot the password or the laptop got stolen, nobody would be able to do password recovery. Thanks.

Just enable FileVault and you are good to go.

Never ever, ever, enable the root account.
