First post here fellas.

I already own a macbook pro 17" and now I am forever saying goodbye to my PC tower. Just purchased a november/2010 mac pro quad, 2.8GHz with 8Gb RAM. Now I will upgrade this guy with a W3690, more ram and some SSDs.

Question is, why such a big difference in price between W3680 and W3690?

I'm pretty sure you mean 8GB not 8Mb, big difference between gigabytes and megabits

Yes, that's what I meant... I corrected the post. So, anyone can tell me if the performance difference between the w3680 and w3690 is worth the price difference? Also, anyone running windows 7 through bootcamp on these machines, and if so, any stability issues?

Intel always charges much more for its top end processor model due to limited supply. The performance difference between W3680 and 3690 is definitely not worth the price difference for most people.
